Maude King Alexander Suite
Spend a night embracing the definition of elegance in a queen-sized antique canopied bed, shadowed by a hand-carved period fireplace. Sip morning tea or evening wine in a lush Victorian sitting area. Martha's Room
Martha’s is the first bedroom guests usually see at the top of the grand staircase; they are frequently dazzled by its exquisite décor and think it must be our most upscale room; actually it is our least expensive! It has a full size antique feather bed with canopy. It was Martha Alexander’s bedroom during her childhood and adolescence years while she lived in Winona. Martha, whose preferred name was “Jerry”, matured into a very beautiful women; there are still stories circulating about her rejected suitors! She did not have any children and she was Maude and Durand’s only child. Guests often ask if the large antique framed picture on the room wall is a likeness of Martha; we wish we could say yes but it actually came from a mansion on St. Paul’s historic Summit Avenue and the image is unknown.

Mary was the well-loved maid of the Alexander family. We’ve updated her room to make it more elegant than a typical maid’s quarters, while preserving the charm and simple elegance of a time long past.

Judge Thomas Wilson - A.k.a. Our Poodle Prince

Named for our Royal Standard poodle, Judge Thomas Wilson /B&B Ambassador in training, who was named in honor of the man who had this mansion built for his family in 1886, The honorable Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas Wilson. This sunny vintage cottage-style suite located in the lower level offers a queen size bed, fully equipped kitchen with stove, microwave, blender, refrigerator/freezer, full bath with claw foot tub and shower, living room with comfortable queen sofa sleeper and storage area for skis and other outdoor personal equipment.
Best of all this ”Home away from home” welcomes your pet!
$25* pet fee for one night stay /$40* per two or more night stay.

This area was previously the innkeepers quarters. We are currently in the process of moving to the third floor and preparing this space for guest rental. Fred, Lynn and Judge are sure you will love this bright and airy space full of vintage charm as much as they did.

- Reservation Cancellation Policy: The Alexander Mansion is a small B&B with a limited number of rooms. Due to our small size and the fact that we do not overbook like large hotels, cancellations and changes made to arrival and departure dates affect us significantly. Please read and understand our cancellation policy: Check in time is 4-6pm. If you are unable to arrive by 6pm, please call so we can make suitable arrangements. All cancellations must be made by a person-to-person telephone call. All cancellations are subject to a $45 administration charge per room. If cancellations are made 7-14 days ahead of reserved date, we will process your credit card the full amount and mail you a gift certificate valid for the months of November-April following the date of your original reservation.* All cancellations made within 7 days of your anticipated arrival will be charged the full amount of your stay and will not receive a gift certificate.* Multiple room bookings may require a 50% per room deposit.
- *We suggest you contact your travel agent for trip cancellation insurance in the event of unforeseen changes in your plans.
- Extra Persons: All rates are quoted based on single/double occupancy. Most of our rooms contain one bed and are suitable for two persons. The Judge Thomas Wilson Suite has a queen size sofa sleeper and will accommodate up to four people. Rate for each additional person is $30 per night.
- Children: Alexander Mansion is an adult oriented bed & breakfast where guests come to experience a peaceful & tranquil visit. Unfortunately the presence of young children, toddlers and infants is not conducive to this experience most often resulting in disappointment and discomfort for everyone involved. Young Adults 12+ are welcome. Winona area is home to a number of excellent B&B’s including some who are family oriented and will provide a fabulous B&B experience for you. We would recommend consulting the Visit Winona web site lodging pages which lists the age limits of the member B&B’s.
- Pets: Pets are welcome in the Judge Thomas Wilson Suite. There is a $25 pet fee for the first night and $40 pet fee for two or more nights. Please contact innkeeper if you are planning to bring your pet.
- Smoke-Free Environment: The Alexander Mansion is proud to offer a smoke-free environment. Smoking is not permitted in guest rooms, bathrooms, on the veranda or porches, indoor public areas, nor anywhere on our grounds where it may impact other guests or pose a fire hazard. We will assess a $400 cleaning fee to your credit card for any violations of our no smoking policy
