Aurora Staples Inn Bed & Breakfast
Table Of Contents
Imagine life in the late 1800's: horse drawn carriages, ladies in flowing gowns and flowered hats, gentlemen smoking pipes in their private libraries, and shopping in an array of unique stores on Stillwater's Main Street with a saloon or two thrown in. One can still experience this genteel time when staying at the authentically restored Aurora Staples Inn Bed & Breakfast.
The Aurora Staples Inn Bed and Breakfast is located just three blocks walking distance from downtown Main Street in historic Stillwater, Minnesota. This elegantly decorated landmark Queen Anne Victorian was built in 1892 by lumberbaron Issac Staples for his daughter Aurora and her husband, Adolphus Hospes. Hospes was a Civil War Veteran and survivor of the famous First Minnesota Charge at Gettysburg. Original furnishings purchased by Staples are still used today in this remarkable home and extreme care was taken to restore the Aurora Staples Inn to her original grandeur.
Each of Aurora Staples Inn's spacious guest rooms feature natural light, some have views of the St. Croix River and Valley. All are complete with comfortable beds, whirlpool tubs, gas fireplaces, private baths, robes, CD players, A/C, bath spa amenities, bottled water and beverages. Upon check-in you will be served hors d'oeuvres and a glass of wine from a local winery. Start your morning with fresh baked muffins upon request, and coffee delivered to your room, prior to your 3-course home-made breakfast served at 9AM.
The Aurora Staples Bed and Breakfast has lovingly been restored to its original grandeur when Adolphus Hospes married Aurora Staples in 1892 and gave her the home as his wedding gift. Weddings, elopements and events still take place today in the lovely gardens overlooking the St. Croix River or in the Parlor warmed by a glowing fireplace.
Our common areas include a spacious Entrance Hall with fireplace, an intricately carved dining room, a stately Victorian parlor and a book-filled library with a wood-burning fireplace to relax by. Enjoy a good book, a steaming cup of coffee, or a lovely cabernet and spend some time by the glow of the fire.
Step up the grandstaircase showcasing a massive picture window and enter a world all your own. Our four guestrooms have double whirlpool tubs, fireplaces, private bathrooms, air-conditioning, period fine art, oriental carpets and antiques.
Our spacious Carriage House, just a few steps from the main house, is perfect for honeymoons and special occasions. This cottage setting features a King comfy bed, sitting area, fireplace, double whirlpool tub and walk-in shower.
During balmy weather, our wrap-around porch with tables and rockers and our beautiful gardens beckon you outside. Sweeping views of the river are enjoyed during each spectacular Minnesota River Valley season.
At Aurora Staples Inn we celebrate the art of food and dining. We are happy to accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions, please advise us in advance of your stay.
Upon check-in you will be warmly greeted and treated to a complimentary glass of wine with hors d'oeuvres.
At 8AM a tray of specialty coffee or tea and fresh, warm muffins will be delivered to the privacy of your room. What a great way to wake up! (Muffins upon request.)
