"Thank you for providing such a warm and gracious environment for what was a very special weekend. Your loving and meticulous attention to every detail was greatly appreciated: the candles, books and music in the rooms; the cozy robes, the delicious breakfasts and, of course, the New Year’s Eve gathering! We could not have found a lovelier spot for our incredible reunion. Do not be surprised to see us again same time next year!"

     Gail — California

"Truly enjoyed the experience. The Garden Retreat is beautiful, the bed was so comfortable. I walked the yard and enjoyed the birds chirping, the gorgeous flowers and the beach sunset was fascinating. Paula and Jerry are special people, they know how to take care of you. The breakfasts were out of this world. Don't pass this place up ... Don't miss this beautiful place!"

"Thank you for providing us with the perfect setting for romance and relaxation. The room was absolutely perfect! The food was delicious. You are both very kind and gracious hosts. This was a very special weekend for us and we will never forget it. We hope to return soon."

     Gabe & Kim — Illinois

"About an hour after we arrived, Howard asked me what I was thinking about. What a pleasure to realize that my response was “nothing.” Not work, the house, our family, just the moment. This was a place to use all our senses. Listening to the birds, the feel of butter yellow towel or a warm whirlpool. A bottle of wine, your great cookies and coffee. The sweet smells of your soaps and the pleasures of watching the fire. We are already anticipating a return visit. P.S. This is one the very few places that Howard, who is 6’5″ could actually enjoy a bathtub."

     Paula & Howard — Illinois

"What a wonderful, tranquil slice of heaven you have here. This has been such a romantic way to spend our first anniversary. An incredible escape to a timeless place. Every personal touch you have made from the beautiful, fresh cut flowers and cozy robes to the delicious fruit liquor and sweet Hershey’s kisses has truly made our stay more memorable. Your distinctive decorating is adorable. Our worries melted away in the herbal water of the Jacuzzi, our souls were soothed in the warmth of the flickering fireplace, and our spirits were rejuvenated basking in the morning sunlight of our private deck as we gazed upon your charming garden and meticulously manicured grounds. The atmosphere is certainly conducive to loving. Thank you for creating such a lovely inn."

     Cindi & Eric — Indiana

"I am so glad we stumbled across your doorsteps. It must have been fate. I have inspired by your creativity and have plans to get to work on my own “home sweet home."

     Kathy — West Virginia

"This is has been our favorite B&B ever! I particularly like the garden theme decorating, and the ever-present connection to the garden by way of porches, decks, and balconies."

The property is a secluded acre consisting of the original 1925 farmhouse with a 2-story expansion with upgrades and the addition of a detached Carriage House having deluxe accommodations and amenities. The B&B is nestled among tall maples, towering pines and perennial gardens. A truly green experience. All rooms have central AC and private ensuites. All rooms and suite have either a queen or king bed. Guests staying in the Carriage House have in-room breakfast. In-room massages are offered ala carte and also with several packages.

The B&B is in close proximity to two casinos, a premium outlet mall, eight wineries,
live and foreign film theaters, many antique and artisan shops and galleries.
Innkeepers Paula and Jerry Welsh both have diverse and different professional experiences prior to Garden Grove. Paula, a native of Michigan, was involved in the auto industry as a wholesaler and importer before switching gears and becoming involved with a global informational technology company. Jerry, born in Ontario Canada, was a former professional hockey player and Big Ten Head Coach. They both worked with the same IT company before deciding to manage their own business in the lodging industry and move to this enviable lakeside resort to enjoy a more peaceful lifestyle.
The B&B takes a great deal of time and effort while being passionate about many outside interests in additional to family and the many friends who like to visit and enjoy the serenity of Union Pier and the beach. If its round and you can hit it – Jerry’s a fan and likely a player. Paula’s outside passion involves “going green” and supporting community efforts to highlight any “sustainability” activity.
