Read MoreLocated only minutes from miles of beautiful, white, sandy Lake Michigan beaches, the Badger Carferry to Wisconsin, and Michigan's most beautiful State Park, The Lamplighter is the bed and breakfast of choice for travelers who want to step back in time without depriving themselves of Today's amenities. From the moment you're greeted at the door by Jane and Bill, you'll leave the stresses of everyday life behind you and start experiencing the Victorian style, Personal Attention, and American comfort of this truly unique Bed and Breakfast in the heart of Ludington, one of the most discoverable, beautiful and relaxing vacation destinations on the sandy shores of Lake Michigan.
At The Lamplighter, attention to detail and personalized service are practiced in the Old World tradition. Our beautiful collection of antiques and original paintings harmonizes with the centennial architecture of our home to create a unique and relaxing ambiance of elegance, warmth and tranquility. After a restful sleep you'll be gently awakened by the ascending aroma of a three-course gourmet breakfast which will entice you to join other guests in the dining room or outdoors in the gazebo.
Your days can be spent strolling along the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan, hiking through Michigan's most beautiful State Park, antiquing in local or near-by shops, or enjoying some of the other many recreational activities of West Michigan. In the evening you can reward yourself with a delicious meal at one of Ludington's fine restaurants, followed by a walk along the beach to watch the sun dipping spectacularly into Lake Michigan.
Victorian style The building which houses "The Lamplighter Bed & Breakfast" was built around 1894 as the home and office of Dr. Crosby, a local surgeon. Although the house was not designed with all the turrets, external carved ornamentation and lattice work typical of that period, its interior has a rich and unique Victorian beauty and style which transcended a Century.
European elegance Massive oak pocket doors with intricate brass hardware glide silently to separate the dining room, living room and parlor from the rest of the house. Throughout the house there are numerous original paintings and limited edition lithographs by contemporary European and American artists.
A recent comment by a travel writer from Midwest Living summed it up this way: "old time elegance reigns in this turn-of-the-century Ludington home".
American comfort All guest rooms have modern private baths with spacious showers and are individually decorated with antique and contemporary furnishings. Queen size beds in cherry, oak, antique iron and brass frames provide for restful nights. Rooms are air-conditioned and include a cable-fed color TV.
Our gift certificates are a popular and perfect way of presenting friends or family members with a gift which is affordable, thoughtful and fun, and can be enjoyed at the recipient's own convenience.
