Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Melanie Barnard for sharing her own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn?
Most guests come to the Candlelite Inn for fun, relaxation, romance, top rated sandy beaches and parks, and especially for a bountiful fresh candlelit breakfast served family style when guests wish, and according to their wishes.
What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?
The inn is probably most known for giving guests such a wide variety of breakfast options, (gluten free, allergies, vegan, vegetarian and so on are never a problem) plus guests also enjoy complimentary evening desserts like chocolate dipped strawberries, or perhaps a triple chocolate brownie torte, and local ice cream is always available too. The enclosed front porch overlooking the avenue is a favorite guest spot, and breakfast is served here as guest wish from spring through late fall.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?
My favorite place in Michigan is Ludington's State Park, only about six miles away, which has been ranked one of the best state parks in the entire country. With an enormous sandy beach on Lake Michigan, another beach on Hamlin Lake. The river, dam, scenic walking trails, and the Big Sable Lighthouse, it is an absolute gem.
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?
After seven years, well over 1/3 of guests are repeat guests, and some have become extended family. That is the best compliment, hearing they want to come back over and over for the hospitality, and for "the food".
What’s the best kept secret about the area?
Ludington's beaches are breathtaking, with not a stone in sight, and the sunsets are amazing. Watching the S.S. Badger car ferry stream into port each evening is quite a sight too, and as the last remaining car ferry, it is a piece of history.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?
Year round, guests enjoy at least a day or two exploring Ludington's State Park, plus guests have the Candlelite Inn's list of all of the area's beaches and parks including the waterfront sculpture park and Buttersville Beach. Stroll downtown, enjoy the quaint shops, restaurants, bars and brew pub. There are wineries in the area, Little River Casino, movies, plays, art galleries, boat rentals, sailboat excursions, cruises, great fishing charters, plenty of antique shops, not to mention endless scenic beauty and stunning sunsets overlooking Lake Michigan which is less than one mile away.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?
Candlelite Inn Bed & Breakfast is located along historic Ludington Avenue. The quaint downtown with shops and dining is within walking distance along with parks, docks and Lake Michigan beaches including the pier and North Breakwater lighthouse.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?
Your innkeeper is partial to P.M. Steamers as they are located right across from the marina with pretty water views, a deck in season, and their staff is very kind to my guests who are so often celebrating birthdays and special occasions. At Christmas time, the restaurant is beautifully decorated with lots and lots of clear lights.
Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference?
www.visitludington.com is filled with information, plus it features a calendar of local events and happenings.
How many rooms does your inn have?
Candlelite Inn Bed & Breakfast offers seven rooms, each with a bath in the room along with spa robes and the trimmings.
Do you accept pets?
The inn is the only bed and breakfast in the area that has two rooms with a pet friendly option. Owners often come very well prepared, but the Candlelite Inn is equally well prepared and has everything available including pet bed, treats, bags, bowls, mats and a one of a kind two page list of all of the local pet friendly places from parks and beaches to canoeing and sand dune rides.
Pets are allowed on the enclosed front porch as long as other guests do not have allergies, etc. Pets and their owners will also enjoy the back yard with two decks, rockers around the outdoor fireplace, and additional seating in the Candlelite garden.
Candlelite Inn Bed & Breakfast makes a lovely location for small, intimate weddings. For a modest fee, the entire main floor can be reserved. The bride and groom will enjoy the Romantic Retreat Suite, complete with a Jacuzzi for two, separate shower, queen bed, with a new memory foam mattress, and very romantic decor.
