  • Introduction

The 1750 Inn at Sandwich Center is located in Cape Cod's oldest village. Visiting here is like stepping back in time. Nestled in the heart of olde Sandwich Village, the inn is within walking distance of the Sandwich Boardwalk and the dunes of Cape Cod bay.

History and seaside charm abound here where this award-winning bed and breakfast is the epitomy of casual elegance. This is the perfect place to spend your vacation or just to come for a relaxing get-away. The five pristine guestrooms offer private baths and many extras for guests to enjoy. The warm welcome and 5-star hospitality have earned the inn the Trip Advisor Award of Excellence because of reviews from guests like you.

Sandwich is not only awash in history, you will enjoy visiting places like the Sandwich Glass Museum, the Hoxie House (the oldest restored home on the Cape), and the Cape's crown jewel Heritage Museums & Gardens. From the inn you can walk to the beach, restaurants, quaint shops, and many of the attractions that draw visitors to the area each year.

One of the best things is the ease in taking day-trips to Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Boston, or the other villages of Cape Cod. Throughout the Cape there are whale watch excursions, dune walks, bike trails, rivers and streams to kayak, and an abundance of hiking trails. There are quintessential Cape Cod clam shacks to visit for the experience and the great seafood. Be sure to visit our website to learn more about Sandwich, the accommodations at the inn, and visiting Cape Cod. Then, make a reservation and come enjoy a warm welcome.

  • Insider's Info

Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Jan and Charlie Preus for sharing their own secrets with BBOnline.com!
Why do most travelers stay at your inn?

They have read our reviews. We provide great customer service and have a lot of value-added amenities.

What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?

Guests love our healthy and hearty breakfast, afternoon cookies, and complementary wine. Most of all, I think they love the welcoming comfort here. Most feel as though they are visiting friends and we like that.

If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?

Sandwich is the oldest and most historic of Cape Cod's villages. The charm factor is through the roof. Everything about Sandwich screams old Cape Cod.

What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?

A departing guest told us that they had stayed at many bed and breakfasts and thought that their experience at our inn was the best. We have heard this from guests in the past and are always extremely pleased they feel that way. Makes all the hard work worthwhile.

What’s the best kept secret about the area?

I have often commented that Sandwich is the best kept secret on Cape Cod. So few people know about our village and when they discover it, always comment about how lucky they feel to have found us.

If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?

We have so many great attractions. Heritage Museums & Gardens is the crown jewel of Cape Cod. It is a 100+ acre horticultural garden with 3 museums and something always in bloom. The Sandwich Glass Museum is here, the Hoxie House (the oldest restored home on the Cape); the Dexter Grist Mill is the oldest operating one in the country. Our Sandwich Boardwalk has been called one of the ten most beautiful in the world by National Geographic. Town Neck beach and Sandy Neck beach are great places for sunning, swimming or dune walking. We have the Cape Cod Canal bike path which is a wonderful place to bike or walk right along the water. Scorton Creek and Mill Creek are great kayaking areas. The convenience of day-tripping to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard, the other villages of Cape Cod, Boston, and Newport is a big plus. And, we have some of the best restaurants on the Cape.

Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?

We are located in historic Town Hall Square and everything is within walking distance of our inn.

What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?

This is a tough question to answer. We like the Belfry because of the unique ambiance, lovely outdoor patio, and amazing food. We like the Aqua Grille for the outdoor patio, the view of the marina, and the killer lobster roll. We like the Sagamore Inn for the good food at a great value. We the Dunbar Tea Room for ambiance and fabulous lunch. What can I say....we are hopeless foodies!

Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference?

One of the best Cape Cod guide books I have ever seen is Kim Grant's An Explorer's Guide to Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard & Nantucket. Our blog at http://blog.innatsandwich.com has really good information about all of Cape Cod that we think is really helpful in planning a visit here. Forgive us for tooting our own horn, but we work really hard at providing useful information.

How many rooms does your inn have?

We have 5 lovely guestrooms - 1 King and 4 Queens, all with en suite baths.

    Do you accept pets?

Sadly, we do not. We love animals and wish we were able to welcome them. The Belfry Inn in Sandwich has some pet-friendly rooms. The Lamb and the Lion in Barnstable is a really great place for folks who travel with four-legged children.
