Newton, Massachusetts is a western suburb of Boston, the state's capital. It is actually made up of 13 separate villages with several lively, downtown-like areas and many Newton B&Bs and Newton inns for overnight accommodations. It is home to Boston College, Boston College Law School, Hebrew College, and Andover Newton Theological School. The Fig Newton cookie was named for this city more than a hundred years ago. Annual events include the New Years Open House at City Hall, the Independence Day Parade on the Fourth of July and the Holiday Lighting Ceremony at the City Hall War Memorial in early December. The Newton Symphony Orchestra performs here regularly. Local attractions include Crystal Lake, a 33-acre natural lake with a beach and a bath house; The Jackson Homestead, once a stop on the Underground Railroad and currently a museum; Heartbreak Hill, a particularly difficult portion of the annual Boston Marathon; Norumbega Park, with its lush greenery and its access to the Charles River; and Chestnut Hill Reservoir, a popular park with a wonderful view of the Boston skyline. The townÂ’s proximity to Boston opens virtually limitless possibilities for other enjoyable things to do as well as many Newton bed and breakfasts from which to choose. Amarin Of Thailand, on Centre Street, is a restaurant that scores high with the locals when they are seeking delicious Thai food.
