Welcome to the Berkshires' Applegate Inn

The inn is situated on a park-like 6-acre Massachusetts estate close to the historic town of Lee. It is near Stockbridge (2 miles), Lenox (Lee is 10 minutes to Tanglewood using our no traffic short cut) and Great Barrington. Applegate has a unique location - a country estate, beset with horse farms, with only a half mile walk to downtown Lee. We pride ourselves in creating a tranquil atmosphere that allows all guests to create memories that will be treasured for years to come. The inn's elegant rooms, magnificent gardens, heated swimming pool and friendly staff promote true relaxation at our bed and breakfast.

During your stay, you will be pampered with candlelight breakfasts, afternoon wine and cheese services, bedtime cognac and chocolates and attentive service throughout the inn, built at the end of America's "Gilded Age," is a Select Registry Bed and Breakfast that incorporates every modern convenience in a traditional setting.

From the moment you check in you will find Applegate Inn a relaxing place to rejuvenate your senses. Our careful attention to detail and the natural beauty of the area promote a feeling of relaxed elegance. The eight uniquely decorated suites in the Main House and three in the adjacent Carriage House provide comfort and true relaxation.

From Applegate, you can explore the many attractions of the Berkshires by car, on foot or by bike or snowshoes (provided by Applegate). Near Lenox is Tanglewood, the summer home of Boston Symphony Orchestra. The cities of Lenox and Stockbridge, Jacob's Pillow Dance Center, the Norman Rockwell Museum, Berkshire Theater Festival, Barrington Stage Company, Butternut Ski Center are all located around us. Whether you desire concerts, theater, dance, skiing, fishing, swimming, boating, golf, tennis, hiking, shopping or just lying in a hammock, you will find the best is here at Applegate or a short distance from us. Concierge Services

Looking at all the Berkshires has to offer; fine dining, concerts, dance, theater, etc., do you feel stressed by the choices and the reservations and tickets? That's not to be part of your Bed and Breakfast experience. Researching these items can be a chore, but our concierge service can help you. Our concierge is available 2:00 to 7:00 PM. most days of the week. She can help you with plans for your stay at Applegate. At other times other staff can assist you as well. We can send you our list of recommended restaurants, with information and directions.

Feel free to contact us by telephone or email for dinner recommendations and reservations. We love the Berkshires and want to share all our favorite places with you! We have menus for Berkshire restaurants and can assist you in making a selection that will be pleasing to you. Likewise we have schedules and brochures for Berkshire attractions and can advise you and help you make reservations. We are happy to do all of this for you while staying at our Massachusetts inn.

As you drive through the massive gates of Applegate Inn, the beauty and elegance of the inn, and the manicured lawns and gardens, strike you. The interior of the inn is even more impressive. Our relaxed atmosphere is created by the careful selection of paint colors and wallpaper, well-appointed antiques, comfortable furnishings, fresh flowers and tasteful art selections.

When not exploring the area or relaxing at our Stockbridge Bed and Breakfast, enjoy the inn's common areas, all of which are handicapped accessible. A variety of wine and cheeses are served every evening in the inviting formal living room of our Bed and Breakfast Lenox, which has several sitting areas, a large fireplace and a baby grand piano. Conveniently located adjacent to the living room is the sun parlor featuring TV and game areas. These are just the beginning of the amenities offered at our Bed and Breakfast Stockbridge. A screened-in porch, which runs along the length of the main house, provides an excellent place to gather for views of the gardens, lawn and heated swimming pool. Guests are treated to bowls of fine candies, fruits and nuts throughout the Massachusetts inn's common areas.

Each morning a full gourmet breakfast is served in the formal dining room of our Bed and Breakfast Massachusetts. A variety of tables serving two to six people are elegantly set with fine china, glassware and candles. Breakfast consists of freshly-squeezed juice, a fruit course, cereal, granola, yogurt, the hot entrée of the day, muffins fresh from the oven, breads, cheeses, hard-boiled eggs, vegetables, coffees and teas. On Sundays, a special grand buffet will encourage you to linger over complementary newspapers.

After breakfast, enjoy the natural beauty of the Berkshires by stepping outside. Walk along well maintained paths to enjoy the inn's rose gardens, perennial flowerbeds, fruit orchards and vegetable garden, or sink into one of the large hammocks to catch a glimpse of Gloria's Secret Garden. The shade garden beckons you to explore the variety of plants that are carefully appointed to create an outdoor oasis. A stone bench is the perfect place to read a book or reflect on your visit to the inn. As the seasons change, so do the wonderful views provided at our estate.

Applegate Inn has 6-acres of grounds that feature manicured lawns bounded by towering trees, gardens planted with every flower imaginable and a heated swimming pool. Explore the estate and don't fear that you will trespass on our neighbor's property because Applegate is fenced on all sides. We want you to feel like you are at home while visiting our Berkshires MA bed and breakfast.

Guests of our bed and breakfast are encouraged to relax on the porch near the pool or when the weather is warm relax in lounge chairs at the pool's edge. The porch contains white wicker furniture with comfortable cushions perfect for starting a good book or just gazing out at the expansive lawn and towering trees past the swimming pool. Lounge chairs can easily be moved under on of our two apple trees that flank the pool for guests seeking shade. Two comfortable hammocks are also located near the pool. The pool is available at all times during warm weather. We want to make sure you feel completely relaxed while at our Bed and Breakfast in Lee MA.

The back lawns are a wonderful place for a picnic. We will be glad to provide the blanket and the lawn chairs for you. If you really want to stretch your legs, be sure to explore the area behind the towering pines, a remnant of an orchard from years ago. Gloria's famous vegetable garden is located right by the orchard. Guests often leave the inn with a gift of tomatoes and other vegetables grown in her garden. A fresh taste to remind you of your stay at our Lenox Bed and Breakfast!

Following the curved staircase from the Main House's central foyer you will find five uniquely decorated queen bedded rooms and three luxurious king bedded suites. Each room is tastefully decorated with antiques and reproductions. The inn's Carriage House, located adjacent to the Main House of our Berkshires Inn, contains three units - two elegant king bedded suites and a two bedroom cottage. The cottage features its own living room, kitchen, dining are, bathroom with whirlpool tub and a deck overlooking the Berkshire Hills. This is just the beginning of the luxury at our Lenox Bed and Breakfast.

All rooms in our Stockbridge Bed and Breakfast feature private baths, telephones, CD players, fireplaces or stoves, central air conditioning and are cable ready for televisions. Many rooms have whirlpool tubs built for two, TV/VCR, wet bars with refrigerators, microwaves and coffee makers. One room even boasts a large steam shower, while another has a spacious in-room soaking tub. Four of the King bedded suites also offer private furnished outdoor spaces - either a balcony or patio. We have a WIFI wireless network to allow for easy Internet access from any room. All room prices are based on two persons to a room, each extra person in a room is an additional $30.00 per night. Guest will find a wide array of special touches in each of our rooms including luxurious robes, hair dryers, fresh flowers and brandy and chocolates.

Applegate is a four season retreat in the heart of the Berkshires. It has been said in describing the Berkshires, "that nature sets the stage and culture steals the show". The Town of Lee is in the middle of everything that is happening in the Berkshires and there is certainly something for every person at every season.

The Norman Rockwell Museum is a wonderful venue and hosts 3 million visitors each year. Or would you rather picnic at Tanglewood and listen to the Boston Symphony Orchestra or watch dance at Jacobs Pillow. There are numerous theaters and fine art and crafts experiences abound. Of course there are wonderful outdoor things to do as well - hiking, boating, swimming, fishing, bicycling, golf, tennis, downhill and cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Shopping at boutiques, outlet stores and antique stores are also activities enjoyed by Applegate guests.

As the sun rises over the Berkshire Hills that surround our estate, the aroma of coffee brewing and fresh baked muffins and bread awaken you. For the early risers, coffee is brewed and ready in our guest pantry from 7:00 AM. Enjoy the morning newspaper and anticipate your candlelit breakfast served at your convenience between 8:00 to 10:00 AM. We are members of Berkshire Grown and try to support our local farmers by cooking with local ingredients. Herb and summer vegetables are grown in our gardens.

Breakfast is served in the formal dining room. Each table is set with crystal, Wedgewood china and silver. Candlelight and classical music enhances the relaxed atmosphere. Choose to sit as a twosome or join others at a table for six. Your breakfast will begin with freshly squeezed orange juice and a fruit course. Coffee, tea and muffins/breads will also be available at your table. We hope to please everyone's palette.

Decision at the buffet are yours. Choose from two hot entrees, cheese of the day, vegetables, local bread and hard boiled eggs. For light eaters a small buffet is served with fruit, cereal and yogurt. On Sunday a grand bagel buffet is served with smoked fish, cream cheese, bagels, blueberry buckle and one of our signature dishes. Dietary restrictions are no problem. Just let us know when you book your stay and we will be happy to accommodate your needs.

Directions from NYC West Side
Take West Side Highway into the Henry Hudson Parkway to the Saw Mill Parkway to the Taconic Parkway North (towards Albany). Take the Taconic Pkway for over 100 miles to its end, to Route 90 East (towards Boston). It becomes the Massachusetts Turnpike and get off at exit 2, Lee. Make a right turn at end of exit ramp on to Route 20 West towards Lee. Go straight at the stop sign in Lee, even though Route 20 turns right. We are one half mile from the stop sign on your left.

Directions from NYC East Side
Take FDR Parkway North to the Willis Ave Bridge to the Bronx and get to your left and make the first left turn after bridge and get on Major Deagan Expressway North. Take that until it becomes the NYS Thruway. You can either take the Thruway all the way to Route 90 or take the Saw Mill Parkway to the Taconic Parkway North (towards Albany) to Route 90. It is over 100 miles to Route 90 East (towards Boston). It becomes the Massachusetts Turnpike and get off at exit 2, Lee. Make a right turn at end of exit ramp on to Route 20 West towards Lee. Go straight at the stop sign in Lee, even though Route 20 turns right. We are one half mile from the stop sign on your left.

Directions From Long Island
Whitestone Bridge to Hutchinson River Parkway to Rte 684 to Rte 84 West to the Taconic Parkway North for about 70 miles to the end. Take Rte 90 East towards Boston and get off at exit 2, Lee and the Berkshires, in Massachusetts. Make a right turn at the end of the exit ramp on to Rte 20 West towards Lee. Go straight at the stop sign even though rte 20 turns right. We are one half mile from the stop sign on your left.

Directions From Southern Connecticut
Route 8 North into Massachusetts to Route 20 West towards Lee. After you pass the Route 90 Exit in Lee, continue straight on Route 20 West until you come to the stop sign at the start of the Lee downtown area. Go straight at the stop sign even though route 20 turns right. We are one half mile from the stop sign on your left.

Directions From Hartford Area
Route 91 North to Route 90 (Mass Tpke) west towards Albany. Get off at Exit 2 Berkshires, Lee exit. Make a right turn on to Route 20 West and continue until you come to the stop sign at the start of the downtown area. Go straight at the stop sign even though route 20 turns right. We are one half mile from the stop sign on your left.

Directions From Eastern Massachusetts
Take the Massachusetts Turnpike, Route 90 West (towards Albany). Get off at exit 2, Lee. Make a right turn at end of exit ramp on to Route 20 West towards Lee. Go straight at the stop sign in Lee, even though Route 20 turns right. We are one half mile from the stop sign on your left.

Directions From New Jersey
Take the NYS Thruway north almost to Albany and exit at Route 90. Take Rte 90 East towards Boston and get off at exit 2, Lee and the Berkshires, in Massachusetts. Make a right turn at the end of the exit ramp on to Rte 20 West towards Lee. Go straight at the stop sign even though rte 20 turns right. We are one half mile from the stop sign on your left.

Directions From Upstate New York
Take Route 90 East towards Boston. It becomes the Massachusetts Turnpike and get off at exit 2, Lee. Make a right turn at end of exit ramp on to Route 20 West towards Lee. Go straight at the stop sign in Lee, even though Route 20 turns right. We are one half mile from the stop sign on your left.
