Woods Hole Inn
Table Of Contents
Perched on the edge of Woods Hole Harbor, steps from the Martha's Vineyard ferry, the Woods Hole Inn is the perfect place to start your Cape Cod vacation.
The Woods Hole Inn is in the middle of everything, on the corner of Water and Luscombe in the heart of this busy village surrounded by water and packed with shops, waterfront restaurants, and fun things to do.
From here, hop the ferry to Martha's Vineyard for a fabulous day trip. Jump on a complimentary bike and ride the dedicated bike path past the beach looking over Vineyard Sound, into quaint Main Street, Falmouth and beyond. Charter a boat and fish some of the best waters in New England. Explore the deserted coves and beaches of the pristine Elizabeth Islands, a short boat ride away. Wander down to the harbor and watch the sail boats and marine research vessels come in under a real working drawbridge. Visit the (free!) aquarium or check out the submarine that first explored the Titanic. In summer, walk to several beaches for Gulf Stream swimming that rivals the Caribbean.
Enjoy eating out? Woods Hole is the place for you! Start with our gourmet continental breakfast in the sunny room overlooking the ferry terminal. Have a popover with your freshly-roasted coffee at one of the TWO coffee-houses next door. Wander down by the harbor for steamed lobster, raw oysters, real clam chowder and fresh squeezed juice cocktails. Watch the sunset over the harbor with a lobster taco and Cape Cod draft. Go on a world-class pub crawl from the Landfall to Quicks Hole to the Captain Kidd -- so close to the water you can dip your feet. On weekends, enjoy the scene with free street music, incredible film series, and late-night local bands.
There really is something for everyone in Woods Hole. Birders delight in sightings of egrets, Great Blue Heron and the enormous osprey that likely gave "Buzzards Bay" it's name. Artists and collectors enjoy the local galleries and ceramics studios of this committed eco-community. Scientists come for the world-class research and then come back year after year for the beaches and amazing water views. New Yorkers come for peace and quiet; Vermonters wander down for that urban feeling of a packed, busy village. We welcome travelers from all over the world with a smile and cool cup of lemonade.
We are an eco-destination. Come stay "Green" by the deep "Blue" sea.
Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Elizabeth Colt for sharing her own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn?
Most travelers stay at our inn to visit the scientific labs here, or to enjoy a day-trip to Martha's Vineyard as the ferry leaves from across the street.
What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?
We are best known for our vintage restored vibe -- a modern, totally restored aesthetic within the old bones of an 1870's house -- and our killer location right in the middle of one of Cape Cod's most cherished villages.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?
The number one reason to come to Woods Hole in summer is the warm, Caribbean waters, which you will enjoy from one of several sandy beaches within a close walk of the Inn. Year round visitors come for the science labs (WHOI, MBL and others) and to enjoy the quiet beaches and vistas within walking distance of our front door.
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?
The best compliment we have ever received is thanks for our warm and thoughtful service.
What’s the best kept secret about the area?
The best kept secret in the area is the Woods Hole Aquarium and WHOI Exhibit Center with a killer display on the exploration of the "Titanic," both free and within a block from our front door.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?
There is so much to do in and around Woods Hole for four days -- daytrip to Martha's Vineyard to explore the towns and shops of Oak Bluffs, Edgartown and Vineyard Haven...return another day for surfing, sailboarding, kite surfing or beaching on South Beach...yet another day for Menemsha fishing harbor...whale watch from Barnstable Harbor...visit the JFK Museum in Hyannis...hang on our local beaches...enjoy lobster tacos in our restaurant downstairs called Quicks Hole...take a fishing charter out past private islands...visit the rare car collection at Heritage Gardens...rent a kayak...borrow one of our free bikes and explore the Shining Sea Bike Path...sit at Waterfront Park and watch ferries and boats pass through Woods Hole...watch the drawbridge letting sailboats in and out of our inner harbor called "Eel Pond."
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?
We are in the middle of Woods Hole and all the shops and restaurants of Woods Hole are around us. You can walk to several beaches, and to the scenic Nobska Lighthouse. The start of the famous Falmouth Road Race (August) is across the street from the Inn.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?
