  • Insider's Info

Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Paul Beauchamp for sharing his own secrets with BBOnline.com!
Why do most travelers stay at your inn?

Most travelers seem to come to our bed and breakfast because of its proximity to the working harbor, beach, or the Martha’s Vineyard ferry. Some people come because it is a pretty, historical, New England property and setting. It is an ideal launch point for the Cape, Islands, Newport, Boston, Providence, the local beaches, whaling museum, etc. Other reasons include: visiting their boat at one of our local marinas; take in the summer festivals, regattas, or concerts; exploring their family lineage/ heritage; or attending specific events like weddings or reunions. Finally, some are Delanos or have an interest in FDR.

What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?

We are known for our blend of classical, antique architecture and setting and friendly, laid back hosts. We offer the full, historical, seaside, New England village experience. Again, some have an interest in FDR and the fact that this property was in the Delano Family for nearly 120 years.

If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?

We have many marinas/ shipyards in close proximity. One can take a Ferry to Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, or Cuttyhunk. We have a lovely mile-long beach and are a short ride from a 5-mile-long beach at Horseneck Beach State Park. Our town has great seafood, a bike path, and is a good place for antiquing.

What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?

“This is our home away from home” or “This is our favorite bed and breakfast that we have ever been to”

What’s the best kept secret about the area?

It is a good, affordable location that is central to Boston, Providence, Cape Cod, Newport, Islands and has local beaches and museums. We can help you plan an itinerary for a fun, week-long stay where you will never do the same thing twice. Also, the Fairhaven/ New Bedford Harbor is the biggest income-producing fishing harbor in the United States. We have nearly 500 working fishing boats in our port.

If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?

Depending on the time of year: New Bedford Whaling Museum, Fairhaven Town Beach, Horseneck Beach in Westport (a 5-mile-long beach), antique, take a day-trip to see Newport mansions, ride bikes, antique, enjoy local seafood, take in one of the many summer music festivals, Visit Cape Cod, go on a whale watch.. etc. There is much to do here.

Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?

One can walk to 6 restaurants within a few blocks of our Inn. We are also within a few blocks of the town hall, library, working fishing piers, bike path, state parks. We are a mile from a beach.

What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?

Many of our guests enjoy the short stroll to Margaret’s or Elizabeth’s which offer local seafood and other entrees. Margaret’s is BYOB, whereas Elizabeth’s has a bar. The Back Eddy Restaurant is harbor-side in Westport, MA. (25 minute ride) and close to Horseneck Beach.
