  • Insider's Info

Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to James and Jill Meyer for sharing their own secrets with BBOnline.com!
Why do most travelers stay at your inn?

Travelers stay at the Captains House Inn because they are looking for a luxurious four diamond lodging experience coupled with the personal feel of an inn.

What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?

The Captains House Inn is known for its English influence. Our British staff is a team of hospitality students who stay with us for a year and learn the business. They provide unmatched service and guests enjoy speaking to them about their backgrounds and future plans. We also offer a complimentary afternoon cream tea served daily from 3:00-5:00. Guests may opt to upgrade to a traditional English high tea complete with all the traditional tea fare for a nominal charge.

If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?

Chatham is located in the center of Cape Cod so it is a convenient location for guests to use as a home base for day trips to other towns on the Cape as well as Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. Chatham has seventy miles of shoreline and a beautiful, quaint downtown area with boutique shops, art galleries, and fantastic restaurants.

What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?

The high number of guests who return to the inn repeatedly is the number one compliment we could ever ask for. The most consistent compliment we receive is the impeccable service and attention to detail coupled with the mouth watering gourmet breakfasts and tea treats our chef creates. These are the major reasons guests return again and again.

What’s the best kept secret about the area?

Guests should not miss a trip to Monomoy Wildlife refuge in Chatham, just a ten minute drive from the inn. While there is an option to take a boat out to the island itself and learn about the wildlife and history, guests can also simply enjoy a long stroll along the beach where horseshoe crab shells and countless sea treasures can be collected.

If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?

There are a wealth of activities for guests to enjoy while staying at the Captains House Inn. Popular itineraries include a bike ride along the Cape Cod rail trail, a 22 mile stretch of bike path along the old railroad, lazy days on one of the many beaches on the Cape, day trips to Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and Provincetown, kayaking, local theater, and antiquing.

Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?

The Captains House Inn is located 2/3 of a mile from downtown Chatham. Guests often stroll downtown where the main street is lined with unique shops and restaurants.

What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?

We love Pisces of Chatham which is open seasonally and serves beautifully prepared seafood using locally sourced ingredients. The Impudent Oyster is a year round landmark in downtown Chatham and the hustle bustle atmosphere and fresh seafood draw tourists and locals alike. For a casual bite, don't miss a lobster roll at the Chatham Fish pier where you can grab a roll and watch the fishermen bring in their daily catch.
