Our Inn is barely visible from the road, but as soon as you find our driveway, you know you are home! Once you see the views from the balconies, you will be ready to relax in a ship's deck chair.
The Blue Heron Inn - A Bed & Breakfast is a delightful Charleston Colonial on the harbor in Solomons Island, MD. For your pleasure, the Inn offers two lovely balcony suites and two dormer rooms, all with magnificent water views. Each is tastefully decorated with a private bath, and are designed to encourage you to relax and linger.
From your accommodations on the water's edge, you can observe working boats and yachts of all sizes, entering and leaving this natural deep water harbor. Your view includes the mouth of the Patuxent River as it blends into the magnificent Chesapeake Bay. You will also see local bodies of water with names such as The Swash, the Narrows, Back Creek, Mill Creek, and the lovely harbor of Solomons. You can also enjoy these views from the great room on the main floor.
Breakfastwill be a delightful experience with or without conversation from the innkeepers. With the continuous activity in the harbor, it will sometimes be difficult to do anything but just observe. Perhaps you will be lucky enough to spot our local blue heron. Weather permitting you may wish to enjoy breakfast on the balcony. If you arrive by boat, there will be a dock awaiting you. Slips up to 40 feet are available with water and electricity.
Year round, you will have the opportunity to stroll the Riverwalk and visit the many restaurants and shops in the quaint village on Solomons Island. You may even want to attend one of the three historic and picturesque churches within walking distance from the Inn. If your stay is from spring through fall you will be able to fish, crab, kayak or canoe right from our dock. Bicycles are available for your use. However, if you choose to just sit, comfortable deck and rocking chairs await your pleasure.

Year round, you will have the opportunity to stroll the boardwalk and visit the many restaurants and shops in the quaint village on Solomons Island. If you prefer to bike, we have bicycles and helmets available. Weather permitting, you may want to fish, crab, kayak or canoe right from our pier or simply enjoy a good book while relaxing on the balcony.
During your stay, you will want to visit Calvert Marine Museum. This unique museum involves itself only in local estuarine, paleontology, and maritime history. Drum Point Lighthouse is located on the museum grounds while Cove Point Lighthouse is minutes away by shuttle. Numerous historical and other tourist attractions await your exploration in both Calvert and St. Mary's counties.
If you are interested in attending church, there are three historic and picturesque churches nearby. The closest is St. Peter's Episcopal, with Solomons United Methodist and Our Lady Star of the Sea within walking distance.
How to Find Us
To reach the Inn: Travel south from Washington D.C. on Route 4 (Route 2 from Annapolis or Baltimore) to Solomons. Continue on Solomons Island Road to 14614 which will be on your left just beyond Solomons Island Yacht Club. Look for our sign as, like the blue heron, we are more easily found from the water’s edge than from the road. We look forward to having you stay in our Inn.
