Abundant gardens dot the landscape and provide seasonal color. Hundreds of snowdrops, crocus, daffodils and tulips announce the rebirth of Spring with dozens of azaleas bursting into bold color as April turns into May. Wisteria, antique English boxwood, and majestic old trees gently contrast with the texture and soft green of pine trees in the distance. Hundreds of perennials come to life early and continue the riot of color from May well into Autumn. Tall Rubdeckia and butterfly bushes, roses and Oriental lilies, iris and day lilies, lavender and Russian sage name just a few.
Specimen trees include pin oaks, beech, holly, red maple, weeping willow, magnolia and crepe myrtle. In late Fall, burning bushes turn a deep, vibrant red, pyracantha berries are a rich burnt orange. Asters and Chrysanthemums expand the autumn color palette. Trumpet vines herald the coming winter as the last blossoms fade. Colorful leaves fall from the trees to expose strong, sinewy branches. For just a few short months, bare branch trees sleep and, along with beautiful evergreens, create a peaceful beauty...a time to renew.Koi play under the waterfall in the linear pond where rock outcroppings and many varieties of fern enhance the woodland setting. On the south lawn, the gazebo and deck overlook the peaceful water garden featuring lotus and water lilies. There are wonderful open areas for lawn games and cool wooded settings with hammocks for napping. Walk along the Little Patuxent River, just below the property, or simply enjoy resting in old-fashioned rocking chairs on the front terrace.
