    Southern Maryland

When you choose a bed and breakfast in southern Maryland from our member inns, you will experience comfortable lodging accommodations and hospitable innkeepers. Charles County, the gateway to historic Southern Maryland, is a place where you can find first-class fishing, a dense population of nesting Bald Eagles, acres of beautiful forest land, 150 miles of spectacular shoreline, enough history to fill several books, sumptuous fresh seafood, top-flight golf, and the wildest wildlife this side of the Potomac. Further to the south, St. Clement's Island in the Potomac River marks the point at which 140 hardy adventurers landed on March 25, 1634 after sailing for five months from the Isle of Wight on the Ark and the Dove. The waterfront village of Solomons is situated where the Patuxent River joins the Chesapeake Bay with plenty of opportunities for kayaking, sailing, fishing, biking, and more. The island town hosts special events including art exhibits, cruises, concerts, Solomons Maritime Festival, Solomons Christmas Walk, and other celebrations. Other area attractions include Calvert Marine Museum, Calvert Cliffs State Park, and Drum Point Lighthouse. A member inn of the Maryland Bed and Breakfast Association is conveniently located near Washington, DC for a day trip.

    Upper Eastern Shore

Choose a Maryland Eastern Shore bed and breakfast from our member inns for your getaway lodging accommodations. The Eastern Shore was given its name by Captain John Smith, who sailed from Jamestown in the summer of 1608 to explore the Chesapeake Bay as far north as the Sassafras River. Kent Island was one of the initial settlements starting about 1631, and for three hundred years thereafter, the Eastern Shore has thrived on its agricultural and seafood base, and prided itself on its distinct and independent ways. Take day trips to Annapolis and Baltimore and know that the welcoming hospitality of the innkeepers at our Maryland Bed and Breakfast Association member inns awaits you after a busy day. The coastline is dotted with historic waterfront towns and rolling farmlands where fresh and salt water meet for fishing and boating enthusiasts, cyclists, birders, and nature lovers. A bike ride through the rural landscape may take you to Chestertown, where you can rent a kayak to paddle the Chester River for a chance to see a great blue heron, an osprey, or an eagle. For more bird watching, visit The Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge. The fishing, crabbing, and sailing town of Rock Hall is known for its seafood restaurants and natural wildlife preserves. Visit The Rock Hall Museum or Waterman's Museum to learn more about oystering and crabbing.

    Capital Region

From our member inns, select a bed and breakfast as an alternative to hotels in Maryland when you visit the Capital Region near Washington D.C., and treat yourself to a memorable experience. From the beautiful covered bridges and scenic farmlands to the north, to the hustle and bustle of the large metropolis that surrounds our nation's capital, the Capital Region has something to offer visitors of all ages. Founded in 1745, Frederick County and downtown Frederick have played a role in every major chapter of American history. Located on the Mason Dixon Line, the county was the site of the Battle of South Mountain and the Battle of Monocacy. Towns were occupied by troops from both sides in the days before the nearby battles of Antietam and Gettysburg. The Appalachian Trail follows the western border of Frederick County for 40 of its 2,170 miles, much of them along South Mountain. To the north, the picturesque Catoctin Mountains serve as the setting for several parks and many local attractions you'll want to see. These parks offer recreational activities such as swimming, boating, camping, skating, and horseback riding, to mention a few. C&O Canal National Historic Park preserves the canal era when coal, lumber, and agricultural products floated down the Potomac River to market. A visit to the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, the repository of exhibits and artifacts devoted to the technological and procedural advances made in the medical field during that period, makes for a great history lesson. To the south, Washington, DC is only a short distance away by the ever-convenient METRO train system. The Maryland Bed and Breakfast Association inns are approved and inspected with accommodations and hospitality found only with the B&B experience.
