The Tunnel Hotel, currently housing the Trail Inn & Cafe was built in the mid 1800's. The hotel was originally erected to provide lodging for the railroaders, working on the rail line that was built to carry coal from the George's Creek mining towns to Baltimore, MD. Later the hotel served as overnight lodging for the C&P train crews. The building was purchased and restored by William R. Davis in 1989. John & Beth Sayler then purchased the property in 1997. The nine additional buildings were added at that time and housed the cafe' and several gift shops. The Tunnel Hotel is currently listed in the Maryland Historical Registry.

In 2006 six of the rooms were converted to lodging rooms, one into an ice cream parlor, we still have gift shops in the Tunnel Hotel.
