  • Insider's Info

Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Andrew for sharing his own secrets with BBOnline.com!
Why do most travelers stay at your inn?

Most people come for a quiet escape in a beautiful, peaceful country environment that is still close to fun daytrips, amusements and sporting activities. They want the coziness of a country Inn and the pleasures of an on-site Health Spa along with the other amenities we offer: nature trails, putting green, and a library of books, film and games. Many come to celebrate their own intimate events such as birthdays and anniversaries, or to attend one of our Weddings or events.

What are you best known for?

Elk Forge is best known for our Historic Manor home, luxurious rooms, superb Spa services and delicious foods.

    What makes your inn unique?
The combination of our history, Health Spa and Wedding and Event venue make us unique in our industry when coupled with our Tea Room and Shop featuring over sixty specialty teas from around the world.

What do you love most about your inn?
What we love best about Elk Forge is that our Inn, Spa, gardens and woods provide the calming and beautiful retreat that our guests need to rest and recharge.

If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?

Elk Forge is a destination in itself. You need not even leave the grounds, unless you wish to sample the local flavors in dining, museums, nature preserves and special events: nearby Fair Hill equestrian trials and entertainments, gaming, golfing, Brandywine Valley attractions or Amish Country.

What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?

The number one comment from guests is that they "felt peaceful and happier just coming up the drive".

What’s the best kept secret about the area?

The best kept secret about our area is probably the Fair Hill nature preserve with over 5,000 acres bordering Elk Forge with miles of groomed trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding, as well as a Nature Center to view and learn about the native wildlife and fauna.

If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?

With four nights to visit, a guest can lavish themselves with our spa services of massage, facials, wraps and body polishes. They can explore the Fair Hill Nature Preserve; visit Longwood Gardens or Winterthur, Hagley museum or Nemours. An historic walking tour or Old New Castle, Chesapeake City or Strasburg would be both fun and educational. A beautiful country drive would take them to the heart of Amish Country or to the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?

Elk Forge is on the Big Elk Creek and guests can enjoy the creek for fishing, wading and for its beauty. They can walk our nature trails and view the wildlife: deer, turtles, birds, opossum, squirrels and red fox. The eagles nest alongside the otters on the Creek. Wildflowers and berries may be gathered in their seasons. Year round Elk Forge is resplendent in its natural surroundings.

What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?

Of course, it is Bunbury’s--the Elk Forge Tea Room. Specialty Teas accompanied by home-baked scones, deserts and savories are a special treat. For fine dining I would go to The Fair Hill Inn or any number or restaurants within a 15 minute drive.

Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference?

Both the Cecil County Tourism and New Castle County Touris websites. Others would be specific to what you are looking for: shows, golfing, historic attractions, Amish Country.

How many rooms does your inn have?

We have 14 rooms & suites.

    Do you accept pets?

We accept pets in select rooms with easy outdoor access.
