"A unique and charming beachside bed and breakfast stop, full of authentic character."

View from Water The red-roofed building was constructed in 1883 as a Life Saving Station to save stranded mariners from the tide, wind and fog and to keep watch over the mouth of Kennebec River. The U.S. Coast Guard took over the station in 1935 and, in addition to the rescue missions, maintained links to lighthouse crews on Pond and Seguin Islands. Decommissioned in 1971, the station remains a distinct and well-loved landmark at Popham Beach.

Our breakfasts consist of two or three courses served in the dining room (formerly the mess hall) at 8:30 a.m. The menu varies with a selection of fresh fruits, a changing array of dishes with breakfast meats and selection of breads, muffins, or tarts. A continental breakfast is available to early departing guests. We do try to accommodate any special dietary needs. Beach chairs, umbrellas, picnic tables, barbeque grills, and refrigerator are available for our guests.

Guest Living RoomThe station offers year-round accommodations. Enjoy the casual elegance of our spacious sun-filled rooms with fresh flowers and ocean views. The large rooms are comfortable and tastefully furnished. The guest living room looks directly out to the sea. The common rooms are furnished with many unusual antiques from Scotland, Norway, and Belgium.

We offer the only bed and breakfast accommodations directly on the beach. We suggest making reservations early especially during the high and mid-season. During the high season we have a two-night minimum stay. However, if rooms become available at the last minute we will be glad to accommodate you.

View from the Bed & Breakfast

Just a few steps out the door is one of the best locations for catching stripers and blues. Partake in the various boat rides and charter boats in the area, or bring your own canoe or kayak. For the history buff, browse around Fort Popham, a Civil War Fort and Fort Baldwin, all within walking distance. There are various hiking trails, tennis and golf on the Phippsburg peninsula. Tour the Maine Maritime Museum, or enjoy performances at the Chocolate Church and Bowdoin College. Browse the antique shops in Bath and Wiscasset and shopping in Freeport, only 35 minutes away.
