Depends on the season. In the “Serenity Season” (Mid-Oct to Mid-May) we get mostly empty nesters, many of whom are frequent repeaters to the inn. They come for celebratory escapes such as anniversaries and birthdays. We also have many quiet season activities such as wine tastings and town events such as Christmas Prelude. We book a year in advance for these events.In season we get tourists of all ages and from all over the world visiting Kennebunkport which has an international appeal and is a destination resort with all the usual resort activities.
What are you best known for?
Our attention to details in all aspects of our operation, our staff and their genuine hospitality. We are also famous for our large, luxurious guestrooms and our extensive gardens.
What makes your inn unique?
It is in a 20,000 sq. ft. 1812-1814 Federal Mansion, and is located in the heart of Kennebunkport within walking distance to shops and restaurants.
What do you love most about your inn?
Our staff and our many repeat guests. We have over 500 couples who have been to the inn 10 visits or more. Each has an engraved brick in our “Memory Garden.” We have one couple who will reach their 100th visit this year.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?
It is a genuine New England Village with many historic buildings. It is located on the Southern coast of Maine.
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?
That our hospitality ranks our inn among the top hotels in the world!
What’s the best kept secret about the area?
The Kennebunkport Historical Society’s “White Columns”, an 1853 Georgian Revival Home which was recently opened with a small museum honoring the Bush Presidency.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?
Enjoy sandy beaches, go bicycling (complimentary at inn), take a boating trip such as sailing, whale watch, lobster harvesting cruise; visit White Columns, visit Cape Porpoise (a nearby fishing village), take a carriage ride, take a scenic trolley tour, eat at four of Kennebunkport’s world-class restaurants such as the White barn Inn or Earth. Also, in winter couples can snow-shoe, cross-country ski, take sleigh rides.

What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?
Too many to list just one, Hurricanes, Bandaloop, On the Marsh, David’s, Tia’s, Federal Jack’s Brew Pub, The White barn Inn, Pier 77, Ocean and Joshua’s.

16 in the Captain Lord Mansion and 4 in the Captain’s Garden House (an 1807 Federal mansion adjacent to the main inn).
Do you accept pets?
NO, but there are two excellent boarding places to which we refer.

The Captain’s Day Spa
The Captain’s Day Spa specializes in couples treatments with an intimate, softly-lit spa room featuring two tables where skilled therapists slowly massage the cares of the day away with each stroke.
All treatments are performed by the award-winning, licensed staff of “YourBodyworks” using the finest in skin-care products, the “Haute Couture” of skin-care, YONKA Paris.

High-back wing chairs and a camel back sofa in our large Gathering Room welcomes guests to settle in for conversation or just relaxing by the fire, which is kept tended daily for most months of the year, excluding the warmer ones.

The Captain Lord Mansion is situated at the head of a sloping village green, overlooking the Kennebunkport River. We are located in a residential area filled with 17th and 18th century Colonial and Federal period homes that have been meticulously preserved. We are just three short blocks away from Dock Square.
From Interstate 95 North or South
- Take Exit 25 (Exit named Kennebunk/Kennebunkport, Route 35)
- After Exiting I-95 turn left onto Route 35 South
- Follow Route 35 approximately 1.7 miles to traffic light at the intersection of Route 1
- Cross over Route 1 and bear right to continue on Route 35 South/9A (Route 35 actually joins Route 1 for about 150 feet)
- Follow Route 35 South/9A for another 3.5 miles into lower Kennebunk village to traffic light at intersection of Route 9 East
- At the traffic light, turn left onto Route 9 East, go over the drawbridge to the monument (about 1/2 mile)
- At the monument, turn right onto Ocean Avenue
- Follow Ocean Avenue for 3/10 of a mile, then turn left onto Green Street
- Our Kennebunkport Maine Inn is located on the second block on the left
