High on a hill in the Lakes Region of central Maine sits an architectural treasure known as the Trebor Mansion Inn . Built in 1830 and once owned by a United States Senator, the Trebor Mansion's origins are shrouded in mystery. Although it was widely held by the locals to be "haunted", and didn't even have electricity in the main structure until 1976, the original artwork, Moses Eaton stencils and stained glass windows were preserved, and it is still crowned by its original slate roof. Although nearly destroyed in a massive fire on 1-24-2004, today the Mansion's elegant guest rooms welcome travelers from all over the world.

Trebor Mansion - 1908
Trip Advisor Review:A funky hued jem not to be overlooked.Reviewed March 5, 2011

"Check out their website. If their website listing piques your interest, do yourself a favour and book a room. We travelled with 4 young children, stayed in "Suite B". Our two rooms were connected by a lovely little balcony as well as a room to room door. Less convential bedding, but so very comfortable. The best sleep I have ever had away from home. They have the most effective blinds I have ever seen in a rental - no morning sun waking me up! The common rooms downstairs were filled with wonderful books and interesting items. A beautiful spot, all around. Contact was made thru email - quick responses, and eventually telephone (I'm not a phone person). Upon our late arrival, we were greeted so nicely by the owner. A quick intro to the inn, and we were left alone. Perfect! We were permitted to have a look at the other rooms, and wouldn't hesitate to reserve any of them. The tower room was fabulous! We were lucky to find the inn as a perfect stopover to PEI from Ontario/Quebec. Cross over at MacAdam, N.B. and you'll see a wonderful heritage railway station. This inn will not meet the standards of some, it is not a frilly B&B or high end hotel, but for me, someone who would rather see interesting, funky and fabulous, it was absolutely perfect."
Our three acres of hilltop lawns with mature oaks and sugar maples look down on the the Piscataquis River, and you are welcome to laze about on the verandah or take a stroll about the grounds. Or you can saunter 400 feet or so down to the historic Carnegie Library on our front lawn. The guests have a private entrance and the run of the Inn---a 5000 square foot structure which is private from the owner's quarters---with a verandah, a wrap-around porch, and four balconies. Artwork, books and eclectic furnishings can be found in every room. We try to treat our guests to privacy, giving them as much space as they desire. The atmosphere is informal. You may do as you please.
We are within walking distance of the center of the village, whose mill dates to 1865. You can get anything you really need here. Come and join old friends and new at Trebor Mansion Inn and step back in time, to a simpler era away from the hustle and bustle of our urban age.

Marvels Of The Highland Lakes Region
Our Northern Exposure combined with mineral rich soil and varied trees makes for a spectacular Autumn leaf display. Foliage is most vivid from late September until early October. We are in Guilford, a village 8 miles west of Dover-Foxcroft, the County Seat, home of Foxcroft Academy, which was founded in 1823, just 7 years before the Mansion was built. Guilford sits on the southern edge of the vast and beautiful Maine wilderness. Piscataquis County is the size of the state of Connecticut---with a grand total of two stoplights and 16,000 people! As a result, we are minutes from a host of scenic splendors, including State Parks, waterfalls, lakes, ponds, and historic structures.Swimmers please note that Moosehead Lake and Sebec Lake have life guarded beaches. For the more adventurous, there is a swimming hole with waterfalls just north of Guilford in Willimantic. Outstanding camping and hiking trails abound, including the Appalachian Trail, 15 miles north of Guilford. You are welcome to use Trebor Mansion as your base camp---some storage may be available. -
We receive callers at the Inn any day after 10 AM. Please do come by, and we'll show you around if we can- otherwise you can conduct a self-tour. If the kids show you around, tip them- their time is worth something too. Coffee, tea and pastries are served at nominal fee to any small party that calls for a reservation. We would appreciate one hour's notice, but we'll see what we can do. We will be happy to host your Luncheon, Dinner Party or Shower or refer you to an appropriate caterer. The fee is $4 per person, not including food and beverage.
Our Unique Meeting Rooms can host up to 35 people---or as few as three in the library with a fireplace. We may be able to provide refreshments. Community, Civic and Scholarly organizations may meet here without charge. Private gatherings are charged nominal fees (see above). Please call for more information. All are welcome.
Reunions, Gatherings and Whole Inn Functions For larger parties wishing to utilize the Inn's many features, we do have sufficient distinctly different guest rooms to accommodate up to 15 overnight guests in the main Inn. Additional guests may be accommodated elsewhere on the property, and we can seat 35 people in the dining room and parlors, with additional seating on the verandah, weather permitting. There is no meeting charge for groups of fewer than 10 people for registered guests, but the curfew is 9PM. There are no "dawn" functions at Trebor Mansion. For our purposes, you may assume that Dawn is at 9 AM.
Weddings, Anniversaries and Receptions
The grounds are ideal for any event requiring a little class, or a lot if you prefer. In the event that the weather fails to cooperate, the Inn can accommodate up to 40 guests comfortably on the first floor---Yes, even a wedding! A procession down the Grand Staircase would make a memorable entrance for a bride! For those feeling an especial sense of urgency, there is a Justice of the Peace next door.Whole Inn, Wedding & Group Rates:
For larger parties wishing to utilize the Inn's many features, we can offer a casual rental to accommodate up to 15 overnight guests in the main Inn: The Whole Inn rate is $400 per night, 2000 per week and $4000 per month. Up to 7 additional guests may be accommodated elsewhere on the property for an additional $200 per night. We will not play traffic cop on a private party of this size: You rent the Inn, you decide who stays where. For parties we can seat about 35 people in the main floor dining room and parlors, with additional seating on the verandah. Tragically, the State has decreed that even casual rentals must pay a 7% tax.Weddings are $1000 and include the Whole Inn for 12 to 15 guests and grounds for two nights minimum ($400 additional thereafter), Ceremony at the Grand Entrance, on the Verandah or Grounds (optional), a Luxury Room for the day (and night!) after the wedding, logistical support where possible and as many callers and well wishers as the Bride and Groom may desire between 9AM and 9PM.

The Trebor Mansion Inn is located in the heart of Maine's Highland/Lakes Region, some 27 miles south of Moosehead Lake, 12 miles southeast of Sebec Lake, and 11 miles north of Lake Wassookeag. The Inn sits on a 3 acre hill overlooking the Piscataquis River, which runs through the village below.
We are 8 hours from New York City, 5 hours from Boston, about 4 1/2 hours from Quebec and a little over two hours from Portland or Bar Harbor, and about 45 miles from Bangor and 50 miles from the University of Maine at Orono. We are 23 miles north of I-95 Exit #157 at Newport. We are 2 blocks south of ITS 85, the snowmobile "highway" to Moosehead Lake.
Driving Directions to Trebor Mansion Inn: We are on Route 15, "The Moosehead Trail," one block east of the bridge in the center of Guilford on the hill above the Carnegie Library. Look up---it's the big beautiful yellow and purple mansion on the hill (the color scheme is Imperial Rome meets Han China, in case you were wondering...). Our entrance and parking are in the rear.
FROM I-95: Go north at Exit #157 at Newport and take Route 7 to Dexter. (This is the route traveled by the alien in Stephen King's latest book, if that'll help any.). Watch out for the left turn in Corinna when Route 7 veers north. At the light in the center of Dexter, continue straight and your next left will be Route 23 North, the Moosehead Trail. Take that left and go about 12 miles, through the village of Sangerville, over the new bridge to the T intersection with Route 15. You have to turn, so turn left, go into Guilford and the Mansion is a block past the Shell Station on your right on the hill above the Library.
FROM SKOWHEGAN: Take Route 150 all the way straight to Guilford. Go over the bridge past the dam in the center of Guilford and bear right on Route 15 East. We are one block from the bridge on the left on the hill above the Library.
FROM BANGOR OR DOVER-FOXCROFT: Take Route 15 West straight through Dover-Foxcroft and continue 8 miles, passing Low's Covered Bridge on the way. As you enter the village of Guilford, we are just past the Shell Station on your right on the hill above the Library.
