The Brewster Inn

The Brewster Inn is located in Dexter, Maine which is less than an hour's drive to Bangor and the beautiful Moosehead Lake and Mt Katahdin region of Maine. The Inn is perfect for special events, parties and weddings. We also offer the Inn as facility space for corporate meetings and group retreats of all kinds.

The Inn is the former mansion home of State Governor and Senator Owen Brewster who was portrayed by Alan Alda in the Golden Globe winning movie "The Aviator"  that co-starred Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes, so it's pretty historic.

Our home was on TV across the USA on HGTV in June 2008 as we were filmed for one of their programmes "If Walls Could Talk" in Oct 07.

In the cooler months enjoy activities such as our winter town festival complete with horse drawn sled rides. Snowmobiling, snow shoeing, skiing and ice fishing are also popular activities. In the warmer months enjoy Dexter's public parks and beach, water sports, fishing and more...

In warm weather, relax on our covered porches and enjoy over an acre of rose and perennial gardens, or play tennis on our grass court. In the winter, curl up in the living room window seat and watch the snow fall, or sit by the fire and indulge in novels and hot chocolate. The sunny curved window of the Conservatory permits fresh flowers year-round.

Dexter, Maine offers a small town ambiance and is enviably located in The Maine Highlands between the Maine coast (approximately 40 miles to Belfast) and mountains and lakes (approximately 40 miles to Moosehead Lake and Mt Katahdin). Guests can take a picnic lunch and explore the countryside, or walk to antique stores and local Wassookeag Lake. Dexter is also on the Maine snowmobile trails.

Our guest rooms range from expansive to cozy, and each offers a distinct personality. Some feature fireplaces, original wood paneling, window seats and original tile bathrooms. Inn and Grounds Fees: Total maximum charge of $175 an hour. If room nights at the Brewster Inn are booked as part of your event the Inn and grounds rental costs can be negotiated.

Business Retreats

The Brewster Inn provides unique opportunity for the business community. Studies have shown that the business traveler demands such conveniences as in-room phones, private baths, and 24-hour access to the amenities of the lodging place. The Brewster Inn offers this, along with privacy and a comfortable, home-like ambiance. The living room, sun porch and dining room provide small "conference parlors," with beverages provided at no extra charge. Lunches and dinners may be provided on request. Breakfast, of course, is included in the fee!

Special Events

The Brewster Inn is available for weddings, parties, family reunions and other special events. Both the house and grounds are available by the hour.
