  • Introduction

Camden HarborNestled at the foot of scenic Mt. Battie (away from busy Route 1), the Swan House has welcomed visitors to Camden since 1983. Built in 1870 by the Charles Swan family, this charming Victorian bed and breakfast inn offers a private haven off the beaten path in a lovely quiet setting.

A short walk down the hill from the Swan House leads right to the heart of downtown Camden, one of Maine's loveliest coastal villages. Few places can rival the beauty or the wealth of summer activities of this town, home of the Windjammer fleet, the Camden Civic Theatre, the Camden Opera House, unique shops and galleries, and many excellent restaurants.

Camden's picturesque harbor offers the opportunity for day sails on a number of schooners, or a short cruise on an authentic Maine lobster boat. Drive to the top of Mt. Battie for a spectacular view of the coast, or hike the many trails of Camden Hills State Park - one of which starts behind the inn and leads to Mt. Battie's summit.

Sun PorchSwan House is a small, intimate inn furnished with antiques and a warm, friendly atmosphere.

All guest rooms are comfortably and tastefully decorated, and have private baths.

Guest rooms are located in the Inn and in the Carriage House, and each is whimsically named for a different type of swan.

In the morning, guests gather in the airy sunporch to enjoy a generous full country breakfast of fresh fruit, breads, and muffins, along with a hearty breakfast entrée.

GazeboDay trips from Camden may include Freeport - home of L.L. Bean, Acadia National Park, or one of Penobscot Bay's unique island communities, such as Islesboro, Monhegan , Vinalhaven or North Haven.

Wherever your plans take you - whether it's off to explore midcoast Maine, or simply to relax and let the world go by - you'll find Swan House a welcome place to stay.

We are looking forward to your visit with us...
