Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Erick Anderson for sharing his own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn?
Most travelers choose Lord Camden Inn because of our great location right in the heart of downtown Camden, great value, our outstanding reputation and our consistent warm hospitality. Many of our guests return again and again because of the personal attention our staff provide each guest, and the comfortable familiarity of the guestrooms, each offering a cozy, residential feel rather than a cookie-cutter hotel environment.
What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?
I believe we are best known for our outstanding buffet breakfast with a make-your-own Belgian Waffle machine with real Maine made maple syrup, and our unique architecture of the building, with each guestroom offering a brick wall, tall ceilings, wainscoting and crown molding – features not typically offered at most hotel properties. The Lord Camden Inn is housed in a 100 + year building that was formerly a Masonic Temple, which offers a lot of unique charm and history to the guest experience.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?
Camden is a picturesque coastal New England fishing village where “The Mountains Meet The Sea”, offering an abundance of year-round outdoor recreational opportunities, fine dining, history and culture. Guests visit for the charm and beauty of Camden and how nice the people are.
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?
Our best compliment is always about our service. This is something we take great pride in and strive to exceed every guest’s expectations. Service is 100% in our control and should be priority number one in every decision and every action our staff take.
What’s the best kept secret about the area?
The best kept secret is that Camden is truly a year-round coastal community with an abundance of recreational opportunities. For instance, the Camden Snow Bowl is our local ski mountain just minutes from our Inn that is the only ski mountain on the East Coast that offers views of the Atlantic Ocean. It is also home to the US National Toboggan Championships held in early February each year.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?
Top on the list would be a lobster dinner, of course, at nearby Fresh Restaurant; a 2-Hour Daysail aboard one of our local schooners that depart several times daily from Camden Harbor; a visit to the acclaimed Farnsworth Art Museum in nearby Rockland and/or Owls Head Transportation Museum; and a hike or drive to the top of Mt. Battie in nearby Camden Hills State Park for a magnificent mountain top view of Camden Harbor and Penobscot Bay.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?
Literally everything is within walking distance from our Inn. Lord Camden Inn is the largest building in downtown Camden, and is the closest Inn to all of Camden’s fine shops, restaurants and galleries, as well as Harbor Park and the working waterfront. You can’t get any closer than the Lord Camden Inn! Just walk out our front door and you are already there.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?
One of our favorite restaurants to recommend to guests is Fresh Restaurant and Bakery. Located a short walk from our Inn, Fresh is located in Bay View Landing, right near the water. A relative newcomer to Camden's waterfront dining scene, Fresh serves innovative interpretations of classic coastal New England dishes inspired by the rich culinary traditions of the Mediterranean region. Self-described as one part neighborhood cafe, one part elegant bistro & bar, Fresh is designed around an open kitchen, where their team of culinary professionals can be seen busily toiling over open flames preparing mouth watering and deeply satisfying dishes. Located next to Fresh Restaurant, Fresh Bakery & Market features hand-made artisan breads, morning pastries such as croissants, Danishes, éclairs & scones, as well as decadent cookies, bars, cakes & pies, all made using traditional European methods. We also offer fresh brewed local coffees, espresso drinks, gourmet provisions, and soon we will feature hand-tossed artisan pizzas, Panini sandwiches, grab n’ go meals, soups and salads.
