An oceanfront bed and breakfast inn, an easy walk from downtown Bar Harbor, Maine, with impeccably decorated rooms and elegant suites, expansive ocean views, balconies, fireplaces, saunas, whirlpools, luxurious amenities.
Balance Rock Inn is one of the premier oceanfront lodging properties in Bar Harbor, Maine. Set on a secluded tree-covered property with expansive views of Frenchman's Bay, this luxurious bed and breakfast Inn's name celebrates the "balance rock," a precariously positioned boulder on the nearby ocean shore, a huge remnant from an ice age.
Your stay includes a full breakfast every day served 8-10am in our breakfast room, or perhaps you would like to enjoy this repast on the veranda bar deck overlooking that beautiful ocean view! This traditional "summer cottage" breakfast includes our homemade Acadia granola, fresh seasonal fruit, varying hot entrees daily, fresh home-baked breakfast goodies, bagels, breads and juice, complemented by fresh-brewed Starbucks coffee.
Guests also enjoy complimentary on-site parking, Afternoon Tea in the Piano Room with our bakery chef's daily creation, Veranda Bar open at 4pm, heated inground Pool, small Fitness Room with exercise machinery, and airport and ferry livery services (with advance arrangements). We are a Non-Smoking facility. Smoking is permitted outdoors, on the private and semi-private decks and at the Veranda Bar deck.
The Inn offers a tremendous sense of privacy and serenity, yet steps away lies downtown Bar Harbor with its village green and many fine shops and restaurants. Built as a family "cottage" in 1903, when wealthy tycoons selected the most desirable locations along the rocky, island-studded Maine coast for their summer season mansions, Balance Rock Inn today presents romantic ambiance and luxury amenities to make your vacation relaxing and unforgettable.
Gaze from the veranda past the glistening swimming pool, beautiful flower gardens and sweeping lawns framed with stately trees, to where the property connects with the historic Shore Path walk along the water's edge. Delight your senses in the comfortably appointed guest rooms and suites, each unique with features such as ocean views, fireplaces, whirlpool baths, saunas and private porches. Indulge in the incomparable breakfast, elegant afternoon tea, music of the grand piano, cocktails at Veranda Bar, and the lazy comfort of a lounge chair by the pool.
The Inn has private, free on-site parking for its guests. Many guests never return to their cars until departure day, taking full advantage of the close proximity of downtown Bar Harbor and the many water activities. There's even a shuttle bus (equipped to carry bicycles) which picks up visitors in town headed to nearby Acadia National Park, dropping off at various points inside the park.
Just steps off Balance Rock's lawn is the historic Shore Path, beckoning exploration. The Path begins near the Bar Harbor Town Pier and gently winds along the ocean front. It's rarely crowded and the perfect quiet escape. As the pier disappears from view you'll have a spectacular view of the four Porcupine Islands which surround Mount Desert Island. Continue walking (or jogging) past the jeweled mansions with landscaped yards and flower gardens. Most of these are private residences, but the actual shoreline is public so feel free to take a detour onto the rocks and explore the tidal pools. This is a lovely walk in the morning or after dinner as the sun is setting. There are a few park benches scattered along the coastline so you can simply contemplate the crashing waves.
