The Five Continents is under new ownership. The new owner is very interested in maintaining the tradition of exceptional hospitality and personal attention that has been the experience of guests in the past. The new owner hails from Vienna, Austria, and has lived in the United States for 12 years. He is fluent in English, French, and German. A graduate of the French Culinary Institute in New York, he brings his cooking skills to bear each morning with a freshly-cooked gourmet breakfast. His partner has also traveled extensively throughout the world.  They share the previous owner's love of the various cultures represented in the house.

5 Continents Bed and Breakfast - New Orleans, Louisiana

Not your normal Bed and Breakfast.  The Five Continents is a reflection of the founding owner's world travels  and life experiences. He  visited or lived in five of the seven continents of the world, hence the name. Located just  six blocks from  the French Quarter down the historic Esplanade  and close to the Race Track at the Fairgrounds where the world famous New Orleans Jazz Festival is held, the Five Continents is perfectly situated for a memorable visit to the Big Easy.

The house is a two story Greek Revival  Mansion with the original carriage house and a dependency.  Built in the late 1880's by Jean Francis Del Corral-Monent, it reflects a by-gone era in New Orleans history, enhanced with contemporary touches. Significant architectural features include the 14 foot cove ceilings that terminate in  a delicate plaster shell  motif, the original ceiling medallions  and the original gasolier crystal chandeliers in both the parlors.  The eight fireplaces, all  with the original mantles and ceramic tile hearths are set into hard wood floors.

Guests are accommodated in our two-room suites upstairs in the main house or in our cottage in the garden area. Each are named for a different continent - Europe, Asia, Eurasia and North American  and are decorated with artwork from the continent they represent.  They are furnished with an eclectic collection of antiques and reproduction pieces.  Oriental rugs cover the polished hardwood floors in the main house.

A full, hot gourmet breakfast is served in our formal dining room  according to the guest’s schedule.  It is a two course event beginning with fresh seasonal fruit or fruit and yogurt,  freshly brewed coffee or a selection of fine teas and a choice of juice.  The entree is truly a treat for the palate.... Russian Eggs (shown below),  French Toast with Hickory Smoked Bacon,  Eggs Sardou, Louisiana Shrimp Benedict, Crawfish Hash with a Baked  Egg and Hollandaise Sauce, or possibly Omelets to order!

We feature GREENWICH BAY Amenities which are ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSITIVE. All soaps are made with vegetable oils. All products are free from animal testing. Raw materials are domestically sourced. Liquid bottles are recyclable and they print with soy based inks on post consumer recycled paper.

Other amenities include 450 thread  count cotton sheets, California  Cotton Spa Towels and wireless high-speed internet access.  All accommodations have color TV's, irons, ironing boards, Mini-fridges stocked with complimentary soda's, juice and bottled water  and hairdryers.  The  bathrooms in the main house have antique cast iron claw foot tubs outfitted with showers and the North American Cottage has a two person, walk-in /roll-in,  shower.

A  popular resident at the Five Continents is Akko, who eagerly greets everyone and keeps watch over things when not taking a nap. Pets are welcome in the North American Cottage. Ask about pets when you make your reservation.
