We invite you to come and stay at The Samuel Culbertson Mansion historic bed and breakfast inn on your next visit to Louisville. This Georgian Revival mansion is located in the heart of the Old Louisville National Historic District, near downtown Louisville, the University of Louisville and Churchill Downs. Pamper yourself with the opulence of the Gilded Age, and enjoy a piece of traditional Kentucky in this former home of a President of Churchill Downs and the "Two Little Knights of Kentucky". - Rudy Van Meter, InnkeeperEven though the Samuel Culbertson Mansion is opulent, life here is casual. It's what's you'd expect at a house that was one of the birthplaces of the Derby Party. Whether in jeans or tuxedo, you are invited to come downstairs and "set a spell." You might enjoy curling up in the drawing room with a good book or in good conversation. From Spring through Fall, our courtyard garden is like a tranquil oasis in the center of the city.
We are proud to host banquets or luncheons for special events. We can serve eight to twelve or more at the
mansion's original dining table. Extra tables can be placed in our reception hall for larger gatherings.
This area and our formal rooms can also be made available for business or organization meeting space.
Afternoon refreshments, coffee or tea are served on request. Let us know, and you'll be invited into our "Kentucky Rathskeller" to enjoy a couple of drinks at our bar (complimentary, of course), play some pool, or bubble away the stresses of modern life in our whirlpool spa. We would like to welcome you into our world. Enjoy the surroundings of a 19th Century millionaire tycoon. Enjoy the charm of a home that nurtured the Two Little Knights of Kentucky. Two of the parlors in the Culbertson Mansion. The drawing room was the main parlor of the house. The morning room, across the great-hall, was where the Mrs. received her callers, in the morning, Fridays, between 9 and 11! In more formal times, Old Louisville had a strict protocol for such things. Lately, we've dispensed with the protocol. A large commons area at the top of the staircase joins most of our guest rooms.

The President's Room
The Courtyard, between the main house and carriage house, is one of our three garden areas. Here you'll find tables and chairs where you can relax on a warm sunny day. Just around the corner is our rose garden with its display of over 100 varieties of roses. A small shady garden on the north side of the house completes the trio!
At the Samuel Culbertson Mansion, Louisville's most historic inn, we are especially keen to give you a sense of place and history along with modern comforts. In our room names we remember some of the people and events that shaped us. At breakfast, you'll usually dine at the same table that has hosted Kentucky Derby dignitaries, Spanish-American War generals, even an ex-confederate general and more recently well known figures of film, TV, sports and politics (though, alas, our privacy policy won't let us boast who they are.) All rooms have premium cable TV with VCR.
