The Boardwalk Suite
This suite is at the end of the boardwalk and hosts a private entrance to your own getaway world. Stand on a sawn baluster boardwalk and see the commanding view of the great Mississippi River, south views of Bellevue State Park, a mid 1800's stone church and picturesque Victorian homes and majestic bluffs. You will feel transported into another time.
The Boardwalk Suite is decorated in a English romantic motif; has a king size bed, breakfast area for two, refrigerator, TV/VCR/DVD, working fireplace and beautiful gingerbread trimmed settee area. Its beautifully tiled bathroom, has a two person whirlpool tub with shower and sky light. If you desire privacy and Victorian luxury this is the suite for you.
The SL Baker Room
The S.L. Baker Room is right at the top of the grand front stairwell. This room is named for the original owner of the house. If you like turn of the century oak furniture, you'll love the quartersawn oak queen size bed decorated with carved appliques of the ancient Goddess Isis. The working oak mantled fireplace houses fantastic Art Nouveux ceramic tiles in a thistle motif. This room features a TV/VCR/DVD combo.
The bathroom has a corner two-person whirlpool bath that sits under a matched pair of large stained glass windows. A shower and ceramic tiles in the natural theme of botanicals depicting various herbs complete this wonderfully romantic bath. A side view of the river stretching south rambles from the bedroom windows. A mid-eighteen hundreds church is also visible. At times you can see paddle wheelers steaming their way up and down the Father of All Waters.
Bridget's French Roses
Nestled at the end of the gallery walk to the right on the grand front staircase, this room has a stately king size four poster canopy bed which evokes fantasy and romance. This room has a TV/VCR/DVD, perfect to snuggle in and watch a movie from our movie library.
The wallpaper is authentic hand printed paper lovingly reproduced the same way it would have been a century ago. The faux marble mantel houses a working fireplace. The elaborate ceramic Victorian style bath hosts a two-person whirlpool tub, double shower and a bidet.
The Bellevue Room
The grand front master bedroom is to the left of the second floor magnificent stained glass domed gallery. This large suite is done in high Victorian style with a fancy walnut carved queen size bed, a deep well marbled dresser and lovely antique lamps in both late Victorian and Art Nouveux style.
An ornate carved walnut Victorian mantel surrounds a working fireplace. Three over-sized windows adorn the curved wall that offers a panoramic view of the village and the great river beyond. To retain the peaceful Victorian ambiance in this room we have hidden the TV/VCR/DVD behind a beautiful Victorian painting.
The bathroom boasts marble walls and vanity with true gold encrusted lavatory faucets carved out of blue onyx, a wonderful diamond shaped stained glass window, a two person neo-angle whirlpool tub and double shower.
The Angelic Tower Room
Originally built as a gambling room in the late 1800's, the round room at the top of the mansion hosted many a high stake poker game. Mont Rest itself changed hands in one of those infamous games in 1895 when the original owner called a $6,000 bet with the deed to the house.
Today it is a guest bedroom that has nothing short of a spectacular view of the Mississippi River. The private bath has a huge double shower which is a favorite among honeymooners. The bedroom set features a queen size antique white iron bed and turn of the century oak furniture. The feel of the room is definitely country folk art. This room also has a TV/VCR/DVD. From the foyer at the top of the spiral staircase which brings you to the tower, you can step out onto a wonderful observation deck.
The East Room
A nostalgic feeling overcomes you when you step into this bedroom. The sitting area is adorned with a fainting couch perfect for lounging in front of the ornate oak carved working fireplace. The bedroom chamber touts a high oak headboard in the queen-sized bedroom suite. This room also has a TV/VCR/DVD. The magnificent Mississippi River seems to pour in from the windows.
The adjacent private bathroom has a wonderful Victorian oak rimmed soaking tub complete with dolphin feet. The lavatory bowl is ornamented in mauves and robin egg blues and is surrounded by a pink marbled top. The bathroom is done in blue and white ceramic tile and a huge stained glass window allows natural light to filter in. If you dream of the gay 1890's this room is for you.
The Great River Room
As the name implies, the view from one of it’s three over-sized windows is nothing short of spectacular. The Great River Room is at the top of the back oak stairwell. With a queen size bed, the room is done in Eastlake style furnishings with accents of golds, blues and whites. This room is a favorite among our regular guests. There is also a TV/VCR/DVD and working fireplace in this room.
The bathroom is a wonderful collage of Victorian ceramic rope, candy cane and multi-color flower tiles. It has a two-person whirlpool bath, double showers and a wonderful marble top corner antique lavatory sink. The stained glass window reflects the color in the walls which will make you feel like spending hours soaking in the tub.
Ginny's Woodland View
Eastlake, cozy and masculine are all words that describe this wonderful room at the top of the back oak stairwell. The bedroom windows envelop you in both the forest and the mighty river. Done in forest greens and golds, this rooms charm will enchant you.
The bathroom has a wonderful wood paneled two-person whirlpool tub, double shower, beveled leaded glass window and a charming pedestal sink. This room also features a beautiful working fireplace with a mirrored mantle. This room comes with a TV/VCR/DVD perfect to snuggle up watch a movie from our library.
The Private Room
Round the corner of the back oak stairwell and head down to the end of the hall. At the last stop you’ll find the wonderfully over-sized Private Room with a working antique slate fireplace, oak rimmed Victorian soaking tub, TV/VCR/DVD, and a brass king size bed. The beveled glass window literally sprays rainbows all over the bedroom in late afternoon on sunny days.
Maybe the best part of this room is the private balcony built directly off the north wall. Nestled back in the forest, you’ll feel like it's yours alone.
The Hideaway Room
Nestled off the dining room on the first floor, this is the perfect room for people who are not fond of stairs. Decor includes a wonderful queen size Victorian carved walnut bed. The large room is adorned with a rosewood marble top wishbone dresser.
You’ll want to snuggle in after having a whirlpool bath, big enough to share with a friend, and enjoy the home-baked aroma of cookies, pies, and breads wafting from the kitchen. The Hideaway has a TV/VCR/DVD for you to enjoy a movie from our large movie library.
The Carriage House Room
Enter the Carriage House by a sawn balustered balcony. This whimsical suite is decorated in a turn of the century French motif. With blues, whites, and yellows, this cheery room will remind you of a sea side cottage in Cape May.
This room features a queen size white iron bed and its private bathroom sports a two person whirlpool tub, sky light, and double shower all decorated with a beautiful lighthouse motif. This room also features a TV/VCR/DVD for your enjoyment.
The Eagle's Nest Room
The Eagle's Nest is in it's own private little world. It is entered via a sawn baluster from the second floor of the mansion. The only other guest rooms near The Eagle's Nest are the Carriage House Room, Boardwalk Suite, and Lachapelle Suite.
The Eagle's Nest is decorated in rainbow sherbet pastels, has a queen size bed, TV/VCR/DVD, and a working fireplace. Its bathroom, decorated in a sea shell motif, has a two person whirlpool tub with double showers and sky light.
The Lachapelle Suite
Welcome to Mont Rest's largest bedroom suite! This suite is located in the Carriage House and hosts a private ground floor entrance. The Lachapelle Suite has a king sized bed, breakfast area for two, refrigerator, working fireplace, and sitting area. It's beautifully tiled bathroom, has a single Jacuzzi bath tub, and steam shower large enough for two.
All of our luxury rooms feature working fireplaces (seasonal), Jacuzzi whirlpool tubs, heated towel bars, Egyptian cotton towels, guest robes, hair dryers, and handmade chocolates. Complimentary non-alcoholic beverages are available in our main floor kitchen and we offer such services as in-room therapeutic massage and reflexology. Sorry, but there is no smoking allowed in any rooms at Mont Rest. Smoking is only allowed outside the Inn at designated smoking areas.
Our concierge service includes reserving tee times at the Bellevue Country Club, arranging canoe trips on the Maquoketa River, dinner reservations in area restaurants, tickets to local sporting and theater events in the surrounding areas and other information on tourist related activities. Mont Rest is close to several large floating gambling facilities and ski resorts. Galena is under an hour away and Mont Rest offers a luxurious alternative and a pleasant change to the typical Galena bed and breakfast experience.

Mont Rest Cancellation Policy (Strictly Enforced): You may cancel up to 30 days ahead of your scheduled arrival with no penalty. We will reschedule you for another date as you desire and as long as there is available space that day. If an emergency should arise and you have to cancel inside the 30 day cancellation period, please call us and we will try to resell your reservation. If we resell your reservation, you will be allowed to reschedule on a space available basis. If we are unable to resell your reservation, you will be held responsible for your reservation. You are welcome to reserve up to one year in advance. Please note the expiration date on your certificate. With limited space and the great demand for our rooms, we regret we cannot honor expired certificates. Due to the nature of our Corporate Retreat and Event (parties of 5 or more rooms) Packages, we are unable to refund any portion of deposits made for reservations. Please call for further clarification or details of our policy.
