    Burton Y. Berry was a former senior political representative of the United States to Romania from 1944 - 1947. He served in various posts at American diplomatic missions in Turkey, Greece, Iran and Egypt. He served as Ambassador to Iraq 1952 - 1954. Berry was a collector of early Byzantine, Roman and Greek jewelry, textiles, seals, coins and ancient fine works of art, of which he donated to Indiana University Art Museum and the Chicago Museum of Art. Born on August 31, 1901 in Fowler, Indiana, he died in Zurich, Switzerland in 1985. Berry is buried in the Fowler Protestant Cemetery next to his parents, Judge & Mrs. Burton B. Berry and his sister, Adelaine Berry Smith.

    Matilde E. Monisant Room Named after an American pioneer aviatrix. Matilde was born in 1878 in Earl Park, IN., of French Canadian parents. Ms. Moisant learned to fly at her brother's, Alfred Monisant's Aviation School on Long Island, N. Y. Mitilde became the second woman (Harriet Quimby, the first) to receive a pilots license on August 13, 1911. Among the most flamboyant of aviation's pioneers were Alfred, John & Matilde Monisant. Their courage & showmanship were instrumental in stimulating public enthusiasm and with it - the growth of aviation. Matilda died in 1964 and is buried in Valhualla Memorial Park Cementery near Los Angeles, CA.

    Moses Fowler

     

     

    Moses Fowler was born in Circleville, Ohio in 1815. He came to Lafayette, Indiana with John Purdue in 1839. Fowler and Purdue formed a partnership in the dry goods business. Moses became a wealthy land baron and donated the land that comprises the town of Fowler., which bears his name. Moses died in 1889 and is buried in Springvale Cemetery.
