Weddings

You can elope to the Irish Inn or plan a dreamy small wedding here. A Protestant minister, Native American, or other officiant will be arranged to perform your ceremony in one of the magnificent nature areas nearby or at The Irish Inn. Eloping is so romantic, and this one-on-one running off to marry in Pope County, Illinois is by far the most popular way to go. In the last year 34 couples married here, which is a record for us. We prefer small weddings of ten or fewer, but if your heart is set on getting married here, we try to work with any couple who comes to us. More and more people are choosing to marry in the superb nature settings of the Shawnee National Forest. People want something simple, elegant, and uncomplicated. They also want to save money and avoid the stress of doing all the wedding planning themselves. The Irish Inn was rate the #1 place to elope in Illinois by www.best-elope-ideas.com.
"We make it easy. All you have to do is call 618-695-LOVE with your date. You get your license from the Pope County Courthouse one day and marry the next. So far, the oldest groom married at The Irish Inn was 81, and the youngest bride, 17 (anyone under 18 requires parental permission in writing). This shows that love can happen to anyone at any age! World War II veteran, Rev. Murrell Hazel, 90, has married people on horseback, on the Ohio River, near waterfalls or bluffs, in the marriage grove adjacent to The Irish Inn, and in most of the natural areas around here," explains Brian McCreery. Rev. Hazel holds the record for performing the most marriages in the area, and married the McCreerys on the Ohio River in 2008.

Pets Welcome
We love animals at The Irish Inn! Three cats and a three-legged black Labrador Retriever make their home with us, namely Seamus Chasemouseky, Cleopatrick, Tabby Tiger, and Augustus Caesar (known fondly as “Gusâ€ÂÂ). Animals are welcome at many of the nature sites, wineries, and walking with your dogs on the Tunnel Hill State Trail is something you must do while in Southernmost Illinois. We have many animal stories to tell when you visit, such as the chronicles of an elegant St. Louis poodle, the dog who ended up in a well but was saved by another dog, the diving Joliet dogs, bird visitors from Atlanta, a mancoon from Manchester, the St. Bernard from Cleveland, Ohio who decided to take a swim right before the long drive home, and the visitors from the Far East who brought their pet birds. This little fellow is Zippy, who is a frequent visitor to The Irish Inn. He was adopted when his family came to our area on holiday. Now he travels everywhere with his people who stay in B&Bs quite often. They would only choose a pet-friendly bed and breakfast. The Irish Inn has a kennel available for your dog(s), and pet-sitting can be arranged if you would like a romantic night out on your own.

Kid Friendly
Children have a great time at The Irish Inn, and quite a few have caught their first fish here. They enjoy meeting out resident animals, exploring the forest with their parents, swimming, going to The Chocolate Factory, climbing Trigg Tower, seeing the Indian petroglyphs or drawings at Millstone Bluff or Jackson Hollow and Shawnee Chief Tecumseh’s statue at Glenn O. Jones Lake, or riding a horse for the first time. Well supervised kids are always welcome at The Irish Inn. On rainy or cold days, there are puzzles to work, videos to watch, and many board games to play at The Irish Inn. Some Moms have even given their kids baking lessons in our kitchen, making up brownies or cookies, and we are lucky to have some art created by children who visited here. Please tell us your children’s ages at time of reservation, so we can make activity suggestions.
