In 2007, Denny won a chef competition with his Apple Cider Marinated Pork Tenderloin
and Stuffed French Toast with Apple Cider Caramel Sauce.

Mission Oak Inn was in the planning stages for almost ten years before it started to become a reality. During that time, Denny and Jan were staying at B&Bs in surrounding areas, took some training with a country inn B&B in Michigan, and were extensively planning for their guest's comfort.

  • Insider's Info

Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Denny and Jan Reed for sharing their own secrets with BBOnline.com!
Why do most travelers stay at your inn?

With 120 acres to separate you from the rest of the world, Mission Oak Inn is the perfect getaway for all seasons. Enjoy fantastic fishing in our 7 acre lake, bird watching, canoeing, hiking, wildlife, and gourmet meals without ever leaving the property. Each suite features a fireplace, two-person whirlpool, private bathroom, private entrance, free wifi, satellite TV, DVD, CD, mini refrigerator, microwave, double recliner, plush robes, and queen bed with custom made headboard in Mission style. The inn showcases the owner's skill as a woodworker and an award winning chef. A full deluxe breakfast is served every morning, dinners are available for an extra charge if arranged ahead of your stay, and homemade desserts come with every night stay.

What are you best known for?

Our food, woodworking, hospitality, and exceptionally clean rooms are what we are best known for.

    What makes your inn unique?

Our inn is unique because it was built for this purpose - each suite has it's own private in room bath, private entrance, and everything else that we like to have in a room like a small refrigerator, microwave, comfortable seating besides the bed, and of course television and a DVD player, CD player, and games.

What do you love most about your inn?

What we love most is the surroundings that we have, the peaceful, quiet, country setting, and our own private lake with excellent fishing. The guests make our love of our inn complete.

If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?

Since we are out in the country, and only small towns surround us, we tried to make our inn a destination for getaways. We are also small, with only two rooms, most people feel like they are family - not in a rented room.

What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?

The best compliment is from guests that have stayed in five star hotels and say that we are 5+ and that this is the best B&B they have ever stayed in and they have stayed in a lot.

What’s the best kept secret about the area?

We are close to the Illinois River valley which is beautiful.

If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area? We have in-room massages, games, movies, excellent fishing in our private lake, canoeing in our lake, our own hiking/nature trail through our woods, hiking at nearby Starved Rock State Park, horseback riding nearby, small antique and gift shops in the local towns nearby, in the summer a very large orchard with many things to do there, and in the winter each of our suites has a fireplace and a double whirlpool so some people stay in their room and relax. There is a replica of a mule pulled canal boat close by, there is a nearby museum in a house that was an underground railroad stop.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?

Our hiking/nature trail, our lake for canoeing and excellent fishing, bird watching, outdoor fire pit, and fine dining is available within walking distance.

What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?

Our favorite food is at Mission Oak Inn. Since we are out in the country, we do dinners for our guests for an extra charge. It's available if reserved ahead of time so people don't have to go back into town once they get here. Our dining room overlooks the lake.

Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference?

We have a list on our area attractions page on our website - www.missionoakinn.com

How many rooms does your inn have?

    We have two suites.

    Do you accept pets?

We do not accept pets since we want to be able to offer an environment that is friendly to people with allergies. We do recommend some local people who take pets into their homes for pet sitting.
