We have a very beautiful plant that was given to us as a tiny start several years ago and now it is a beautiful specimen with gorgeous flowers. When we see this plant, we are reminded of the friend that gave it to us. It is called a gas plant and it has such wonderful flowers you would think it would smell good but it smells like gas, hence the name!Mission Oak Inn Central Illinois Bed and Breakfast

Chewy granola bar recipe 9 Apr 2012, 4:41 pm
1/2 cup butter, softened1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons honey
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 cups quick-cooking oats
1-1/4 cups crisp rice cereal
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup raisins, optional
1 cup dark or semisweet chocolate chips, optional
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add the honey, vanilla and egg; mix well. Combine the flour, cinnamon, baking powder and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture. Stir in oats, cereal and nuts and raisins or chocolate chips if desired. Press into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until the top is lightly browned. Cool on a wire rack. Cut into bars.

Crock pot dessert recipe 5 Mar 2012, 6:28 pm
Crock Pot Hot Fudge Cake1-3/4 cups packed brown sugar, divided
1 cup all-purpose flour
6 tablespoons baking cocoa, divided
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup 2% milk
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1-3/4 cups boiling water
Vanilla ice cream
In a small bowl, combine 1 cup brown sugar, flour, 3 tablespoons cocoa, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, combine the milk, butter, and vanilla; stir into dry ingredients just until combined. Spread evenly into a 3-qt. slow cooker coated with cooking spray. Sprinkle with chocolate chips. In another small bowl, combine the remaining brown sugar and cocoa; stir in boiling water. Pour over batter (do not stir). Cover and cook on high for 4 to 4-1/2 hours or until a toothpick inserted near the center of the cake comes out clean. Serve warm with ice cream. Yields 8 servings.
NOTE: In our older crockpot, it was about done in 2 hours on high so we turned it down to low for 1/2 hour (total 2.5 hours). Be sure to check it the first time you make it.
