Why do most travelers stay at your inn?

Many reasons, but guests seem to love our location (only 1 1/2 blocks from downtown Galena), the decor, the history of this amazing building, the absolute cleanliness, and the grounds.

What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?

We are best known for hospitality. Having served over 12,000 guests over the last 14 years, our commitment to our guests’ satisfaction is our first priority. The inn is unique for its wine time (we have a liquor license), and its high style and luxury. What we love about the inn is its history. Susan B Anthony and President US Grant were friends of the owners, and it is one of architect Andrew Jackson Downing’s most well-known designs.

If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?

Hard to narrow it down to one, but the main reason has to be the gorgeous scenery and the fact that we have the longest intact historic Main Street in the country.

What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?

One of our guests told me that this is the only place that she could walk around in bare feet and feel really clean; That she felt absolutely at home here.

What’s the best kept secret about the area?

The topography, the incredible variety of activities and the NINE wineries.

If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?

Take a trolley tour, visit any or all of the wineries and breweries, check out the museums, take a riverboat sight-seeing or dinner cruise, ski, golf, horseback ride, hike, bike, shop, antique, tour historic sites and enjoy fine dining!

Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?

All the shops, most restaurants, museums, and historic sites are within walking distance.

What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?

    Perry Street Brasserie.

Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference?

    VisitGalena.com or Galena.org

How many rooms does your inn have?

We have 5 rooms. (It is a 7,000 sq ft mansion, but we only rent 5 guestrooms) Guests have lots of rooms, parlors, etc. to enjoy.

    Do you accept pets?

While we do not accept pets at the inn, Elite Pet Sitting in the area has an amazing facility for visiting pets. No cages -- each pet receives individual attention and lives in her home with the family. She has 3 fenced acres and is very careful of the pets she allows to stay (shot records & vet statement are required; no aggressive or sick dogs).
