  • Introduction

Welcome to the Kauai Country Inn!

Recommended by Frommer's Travel Guides, the Kauai Country Inn B&B is one of Hawaii's premier bed & breakfasts and consists of four private, executive style vacation suites all of which are beautifully furnished in Hawaiian style decor, with private entrance & bath, and full private kitchen or kitchenette. Each of the tropical B&B suites are fully equipped with all the regular amenities, but also feature flat screen TVs with DVD players, and en-suite Computers with FREE DSL & Wi-fi internet.

BEATLES Fans take note: The Kauai Country Inn B&B hosts the only private Beatles Museum in the United States, featuring interesting items like a Mini Cooper S car owned by Beatles manager Brian Epstein, original paintings by John Lennon, and a host of books, records, movies, tapes, T-shirts, and other interesting rare items about The Beatles.

A simple Continental Breakfast is provided every morning FREE of charge, and there is FREE Reserved Parking & a FREE Guest Laundry. Nightly rates from $129 to $179.

We are located on 2 acres of beautiful farm land in an area called Wailua, just 4 miles inland from Kapaa town on Kauai's East Shore. The serene property has a number of organic fruit trees of mangoes, bananas, starfruit, oranges, grapefruit, lychee, papaya, and avocado; and guests are welcome to pick fresh fruit from the trees when in season.

The main house consists of four private, executive style vacation suites all of which are beautifully furnished in Hawaiian style decor, all with private bathroom and full kitchen or kitchenette. Each of these tropical hideaways is fully equipped with most regular amenities but also feature flat screen TVs with DVD players, and computers with FREE high speed DSL internet access so you can stay in touch while away from home. The Inn also features the only private Beatles Museum in the United States, and tours are given Mondays and Fridays upon request (sorry, guests only!).

A simple complimentary Continental Breakfast consisting of assorted pastries, yogurt, oatmeal and freshly brewed coffee & tea is available in the mornings free of charge, and guests are welcome to explore the two acre property and pick fresh organic fruit from the trees when in season.
Guest Laundry Facilities and On-site Parking are also available FREE of charge.

The Kauai Country Inn has several ties to the Movie Industry. It has been featured in a Czechoslovakian documentary about the Hawaiian Islands, and its owners, Mike & Martina Hough owned an Advertising Agency working in Hollywood for 17 years with all the major studios on TV and movie releases. They worked on Hercules, Xena, Star Trek, Simpsons, Nine Months, Braveheart, and many other releases. Also featured in the Inn, is the only private Beatles Museum in the United States, with an extensive 40 year collection of Beatles items from England, Germany and America, including a Mini Cooper "S" car registered by Brian Epstein, the Beatles manager; an original John Lennon ‘Bag-One' drawing, and many other interesting.

Your Hosts, Mike and Martina Hough, are both graphic designers, professional photographers, and wedding officiants, who moved to the islands from California, looking for a slower pace of life. The Houghs, who also operate a successful wedding business in Kauai, enjoy their Hawaiian lifestyle, being actively involved in the local community. They live on the two acre property in Wailua with their 20 year old son Johannes, and their Golden Retriever Annie (pictured above).
Additional staff on the property include Jeff, our manager, who puts out breakfast most mornings and knows all the "not to me missed" attractions Kauai has to offer. Patricia is our trusted housekeeper.

    English and German are spoken.

  • The Beatles Museum: ONLY at the Kauai Country Inn!

As an exclusive attraction to guests of the Kauai Country Inn, we feature the only private Beatles Museum in the United States. Included in the collection of Beatles memorabilia from all over the world are some unique items including a Mini Cooper S car with original paperwork signed by Brian Epstein, the Beatles manager, as original owner. This car, pictured above, is in incredible condition for its age (1967) with original mileage of 19,000 miles and an unbelievable story of how it came into the collection. This was originally one of 5 identical Mini's, the others being purchased by Brian Epstein for Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, and as far as we know all having disappeared from the world many years ago.

There is also a 60's Beatles drum skin with the Extra Weatherking logo, from a set of drums used during touring, or possibly even on the Ed Sullivan Show. It has pride of place on a small set of drums for display, that otherwise have no ties to Ringo Starr in any way. There is an original Bag One painting signed in pencil by John Lennon as well as some of the original guitars used by the best tribute band in the Southern hemisphere - the Beatels based in Australia. These guitars are the John Lennon Electric Acoustic Ovation, and the Red Fender favored by John Lennon and purchased just before his death in December 1980.

We are presently trying to increase the collection of Beatles Guitars and hope to soon have examples of the Guitars used by Paul McCartney and George Harrison.

We have an ever expanding collection of records, movies, tapes, and host of books, as well as T-shirts and rare items seen only at exhibitions. This is an exclusive attraction to guests of the Kauai Country Inn and the museum is not open to the public. Photos may be taken by the car, and of any of the other collectibles.

  • Area Activities

All of the island’s attractions are close by and it's only a short 20 minute drive from the Lihue Airport to get to the Kauai Country Inn. Grocery stores and restaurants can be found in Kapaa town, just a short 10 minute drive down the road from us.

As the whole island is ONLY 27 by 32 miles big, there is no need to arrange for accommodation on different sides of the island. Everything is close by and visitors typically plan day trips to the North Shore or West Side, both of which can be reached within an hour from our central location. Staying on the North Shore or West Side of Kauai can make for LONG day trips to other parts of the island, while staying on Kauai's East Side allows easy access to all which Kauai has to offer.

As our name indicates, the Inn is situated in lush tropical countryside, less then a 10 minute drive away from beautiful east shore beaches and the many restaurants and shops located in Kapaa town. On your way to and from the Inn you will pass splendid waterfalls, tropical rainforest and drive through gorgeous valleys. We are close to many beautiful hiking trails – yet less then 10 minutes away from some of the best beaches and restaurants on the Island.

We are in an ideal location for all of your sightseeing! Most of the island’s attractions are close by: Just 5 minutes away from the Inn are the Opaeka’a Waterfalls and the Wailua River, where the Smith’s Tour Boats will take you to the famed “Fern Grotto”, used as a location in Elvis’s “Blue Hawaii” movie. Kapaa town, less than a 10 minute drive away, offers the most variety in restaurants and shops. The Wailua Golf Course is just south of Kapaa and offers an 18 hole course with quite reasonable green fees.

Our central location offers quick access to the scenic sugar country of the south shore, or the taro fields of the northern coast.

Drive 30-45 minutes north of Kapaa and you will get to Kauai’s famed North Shore and the towns of Princeville and Hanalei. More beautiful beaches await you. Check out Hanalei Bay, a 2 mile white sand beach famed for it's winter surf and make sure to drive all the way to the end of the road, where Ke’e Beach, one of the best snorkel beaches in the State of Hawaii, awaits you.

On your way back, stop at the Kilauea Lighthouse and learn it's rich Island history and don't miss the bird sanctuary surrounding it.

In the other direction, a 30-45 minute drive south will take you to famed Poipu Beach, the “Spouting Horn” and "Shipwreck Beach". Or carry on around the Island and check out Waimea town where time seems to be standing still. This is where Captain Cook first set foot on the island. Don't forget to check out the "Russian Fort" just outside Waimea town.

Another 30 minutes drive will take you high into the mountains to gaze upon the Waimea Canyon, affectionately named the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific” by Mark Twain. Don't miss the Kalalau Lookout while you're up there – this will give you your closest view of the Na Pali coastline, a panoramic view of Kauai’s North Shore, unless you want to get 'up close and personal' and take a 3 day / 11 mile hike :-) or more conveniently go by boat or helicopter.

  • How To Find Us

    Directions from the Airport:

Having arrived at the Kauai airport, please turn RIGHT onto the main highway, Kuhio HWY - Route 51/56 North. It will take you about 10 minutes to reach the Wailua River. Cross the river and turn left at the traffic light into Kuamo'o Road. Take Kuamo'o Road (HWY 580) up pass the Opaeka'a Waterfalls and turn right at the Wailua Country Store onto Kamalu Road (HWY 581). Take Kamalu Road to the "Stop sign" (at the T-Junction) and turn left on Olohena. Kauai Country Inn is about 1/2 mile on the right hand side of the street. There is a big Lava rock mailbox and wall at the top of the driveway to the Inn. The main house which is set back from the street is a big white house with green trim and features a picture mural of a Hawaiian landscape. Please note that there is intentionally no "Kauai Country Inn" sign on the street. We strive to keep the Inn quiet, serene & private for our guest's comfort.
