On the first floor of the main house, it opens to the wraparound porch through original shutter doors and a glass window-door. Twin lowboy koa beds. The bathroom with tiled shower/tub combo is attached. Originally the billiards room, it is where Jack London and his wife Charmian slept when they stayed here in 1907. This room gets the cool mountain breeze off Maunakea at night. $219/night, double occupancy. 2-night minimum stay.

Once part of the ballroom, it is upstairs in the Shipman House, with an antique koa queen bed, small sitting area, and attached bath. Very comfortable, this room is adjacent to the upstairs porch, and gets the cool mountain breeze off Mauna Kea at night. It looks out toward the park-like side yard and the front of the house. $229/night, double occupancy; 2-night minimum stay.

- We remove shoes before entering the house. A local custom, it preserves the soft, historic Douglas fir floors and antique rugs. You may wear soft-soled house slippers or orthotic shoes indoors.
