The 1884 Paxton House Inn is one of only two remaining Victorian Gothic Mansions in the area. Built in 1884 as a winter cottage for Colonel J. W. Paxton of Wheeling, West Virginia and his family. This is a one of a kind, board and batten home featuring gothic turrets, Victorian gingerbread and expansive verandahs. One of the first seasonal residences built in Thomasville during the hotel era featured in the first illustrated pamphlet about Thomasville’s Winter Season, which was published to lure the Northerners to Winter here.
