Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Diane McCray for sharing her own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn? Most folks stay at the Green Palm Inn to experience Savannah through the eyes of a local. We offer insider info I guess you could say!
What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn? I'm best known for my breakfasts and we pride ourselves in the cozy feel our inn offers. This inn is unique because we are very small and visitors experience that "at home" feel. I make every breakfast here and it is time that I cherish with all of my guests. I love the fact that I meet people from all over the world and consider them my family as soon as they walk in the door.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit? Savannah is so rich in history that it should be on evertyone's bucket list!
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn? While we receive plenty of compliments, the biggest of all is the continual repeat business. We have regular guests that come back year after year!
What’s the best kept secret about the area? General Sherman gave his 40 acre and a mule speech to freed slaves in the Church (Second African American Baptist) just across the Greene square this inn.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area? I definitely recommend that guests take a history tour, then walk with a guide for architectural info. A good ghost tour is essential because you hear so much about that family's history as well. A ride out to Bonaventure Cemetery and Isle of Hope is a great idea too, and Tybee Island, the marshland, and Ft Pulaski. You won't want to miss Lulu's Chocolate Bar and Wright Square cafe (our chcolatier here), a must for the discerning chocolate lover.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn? Everything is within walking distance to the Inn. Our river front is about a 4 minute walk with city market only about 8 minutes. We have a fabulous restaurant, Cha Bella which is just a few steps out our back door.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area? Savannah is filled with fabulous restaurants but my favorite is Alligator Soul with Cha Bella running a close second.
Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference? You'll want to check out www.Savannahvisit.com for general information. Also, www.sellersandhiggins.com for a walking tour with lots of back stories and tales of Savannah's women. Then check for architectural tours with Jonathon at www.architecturalsavannah.com
.How many rooms does your inn have? We have 4 rooms here at the Inn and a separate cottage with 2 bedrooms for families.
Do you accept pets? We do not allow pets here at the Inn, however small dogs are acceptable at the State Street Cottage.
