"One of America's Best Dude Ranches" - Travel + Leisure Magazine
If you haven't figured it out already, Southern Cross Ranch is, at its core, a family-owned and operated horse farm that values its animals. We have been raising quality Paint and Quarter horses for over 25 years. For more than 10 years, we have been welcoming guests to visit and share the indescribable joy of being around these magnificent creatures. Over two dozen foals are born on the ranch from March - June each year. Occasionally, guests may get a unique opportunity to see a mare giving birth. Everyone has virtually unlimited opportunities to touch, photograph, and interact with many of the foals and other horses. One of the most popular comments from guests is that our horses--especially the foals--are exceptionally gentle and docile, making for an unforgettable experience.
If you are a horse lover or are simply curious about horses, you've come to the right place. You'll be able to watch horses grazing from every porch, deck, dining room, and even from the pool area. Our philosophy is simple: it can't be a horse lover's paradise if it's not a horse's paradise first.
Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Inge Wendling for sharing her own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn?
Most come to enjoy our equestrian activities and fine food.
What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?
We’re best known for our flexible horseback riding options and our collections of horses (more than 200 on site). We’re unique in that we sit in the grey area between traditional B&Bs and dude ranches… a B&B experience with horses. The thing that I love most about our inn is the fact that we have guests from all over the world come to enjoy our rooms, horses, and food.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?
Madison, GA is the only city between Atlanta and Savannah that General Sherman’s forces did not burn to the ground during the March to the Sea during the Civil War. There is plenty of beautiful architecture and history here.
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?
I would say that the compliment that most frequently comes to mind is a German gentleman guest that kept saying that he believed that he was in “Paradise!”
What’s the best kept secret about the area?
Strangely enough, we’re probably the best kept secret in the area… some of the locals don’t even know we exist.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?
The majority of our guests spend all their time here at the Ranch… if they choose to spend time off the Ranch, they’ll usually spend it in Madison or Atlanta (one hour west by car).
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?
While guests have walked into town from our ranch, it’s about seven miles… most go by car or use one of our bikes.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?
We’re one of the top-rated restaurants in the area… if folks want to eat in town, we often suggest Ricardo’s.
Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference? How many rooms does your inn have?
We have 16 total guest rooms, in five categories (all the rooms are different), some can accommodate up to four people.
Do you accept pets?
We do not allow pets in our guest rooms, but we do board dogs in stalls in our barn for $15 per night (we suggest that smaller dogs be crated). Otherwise, there are a few animal boarding places in the area.
Our rooms are divided into 5 categories; 1-5 with 5 being the highest. Each room category is pleasantly appointed featuring a King-sized bed, A/C, TV, DVD, phone and private bath. Premium rooms offer whirlpools, fireplaces, and unmatched views. Rooms are available with a rustic, western theme or one of more traditional Southern decor. Some rooms may have a King and Queen or King and twin bed arrangement.
All guests are able to enjoy ccomplimentary breakfast, unlimited soft drinks, tea, coffee, fresh lemonade, snacks, fruit and fresh baked desserts available 24 hours per day.
Our meals are served buffet style 3 times daily and feature a delicious mix of international cuisine as well as local favorites. Lunch and Supper are included for guests staying on the All-Inclusive (AI) and All-Inclusive Non-Riding Plan (AINR) and may be purchased separately by all others. Serving times are 8am, 1pm, and 6pm. Lunch and supper reservations are required for walk-ins or patrons staying on our B&B plan. Please contact us for reservations. All guests are able to enjoy complimentary breakfast, unlimited soft drinks, tea, coffee, fresh lemonade, snacks, fruit and fresh baked desserts available 24 hours per day.
Our newest amenity is an aqua massage bed. This is a very unique and highly specialized machine. A spray bar traveling shoulder to toe shoots heated, pulsating water from your center line around to your sides. Rest assured - you remain clothed and dry for your privacy and comfort. Our aqua massages are a perfect way to ease those sore muscles from time spent in the saddle or the trip here. It is reported that 10-15 minutes on the aqua bed is therapeutically equivalent to a 60-minute personal massage. Aqua massages are not included in our packages, but are quite reasonable on an a la carte basis.
