HISTORY OF THE INN
Hartwell attorney, Jim Skelton and his wife, Jessie, built their elegant Victorian home on Benson Street in Hartwell in 1896, laying the roots for a homeplace for their family which grew to include ten children. The charm, grace and hospitality of the original Skelton family and their grand home has been retained by this generation of Skeltons as their recently restored home begins its new life as The Skelton House.
Today the Skelton family invites you to enjoy the comfort and the splendor of their home in its new role as a bed and breakfast. Each of the seven guestrooms reflects the personalities and lives of the original Skelton family and includes amenities such as private bath, television, telephone, fax capability and individual climate controls.Walk through the front door and you are embraced by Southern comfort as the smell of freshly baked cookies and breads greets you in the tastefully appointed foyer. A member of the Skelton family will welcome you and help you choose one of the guestrooms named for the Skelton children who were nurtured there at the turn-of-the-century.
