Open Gates Bed & Breakfast

The Island Room is our largest room and is located on the ground floor, convenient to the library and dining room. A private full bath, private dressing area and an antique cannonball four-poster King-sized bed distinguish this guest room. A twin bed and sitting area also provide extra space for relaxation. The Bluebird Room receives lots of morning sunlight and has a gorgeous view of the memorial fountain in historic Vernon Square. Decorated in antique bird prints that belonged to Kelly's great-grandmother, this cozy room has a private bath and shower. A queen-sized bed, private dressing area and private bath create an inviting nest in this upstairs room. Upstairs. Private bath.

The Garden Room is a favorite for those seeking solitude. Located up the outside steps of the carriage house, it has a private entrance and sitting porch as well as a private bath. A king-sized bed and a twin day bed make this an ideal room for couples wanting to escape.
$140 per night.

The River Room is our largest upstairs room. It is decorated in warm colors, dark woods and has a mission-style king-sized bed. A comfortable sitting area with large wing-backed chairs overlooks Vernon Square. This room was named in honor of the founder of Open Gates, Carolyn Hodges, who was a staunch conservationist and a crusader to protect the Altamaha River. The large bathroom is located across the hall and is shared with the Magnolia Room. Upstairs. Shared or Private Bath.
$99 per night shared bath/ $110 per night as a private bath.

The Magnolia Room is a large, sunny upstairs room with a new four-poster King-sized bed and a twin day bed. This room has a view of our huge magnolia trees and is decorated in oak fixtures, winged-back chairs and botanical prints with a large antique schoolteacher's desk. Writers and artists often prefer this room. The spacious bathroom is shared with the River Room and is located across the hall. Upstairs. Shared or Private Bath.
$90 per night shared bath/ $99 per night as a private bath.

Policies and Amenities

• Rates: Rooms are $90 to $125 per night, single or double occupancy. Room rates include breakfast. Rates are subject to change and do not include 12% state and local tax.
• There is a $20 charge for each additional person in room.
• Reservations: Major credit card (Master Card or Visa, please) or advanced deposit is required to confirm reservation. Cancellations require a seven (7) day notice for Friday and Saturday nights, two (2) day notice for Sunday through Thursday nights, fourteen (14) day notice for holidays and special events, including the Blessing of the Fleet. If less notice is given, a refund will be made if we are able to rent your room.
• Check in: From 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm, unless otherwise arranged.
• Check out: before 11:00 am.
• Special Events: Holidays and special events may require a minimum stay.
• Smoking: We are a non-smoking facility. Smokers are welcome to use the outdoor areas.
• Children: Open Gates welcomes well behaved children.
• Pets:Pets are welcome in our Garden Room only for a fee of $20/pet/night. This room is separate from the main house with its own entrance. Out of courtesy for guests with allergies, pets are not allowed in the main house.
• Breakfasts: Your room rate includes a full morning breakfast, beginning with freshly ground coffee, a selection of Harney and Sons teas, fruit juices and fresh fruit. Our set menus include a combination of homemade waffles, southern biscuits, omelets, baked eggs, Canadian ham, sausage, or bacon. In season, we often serve our famous Altamaha shrimp and grits as well. We are happy to try and accommodate special dietary needs. Please make us aware of your specific requests when you make your reservation. Breakfast is served between 8 am and 9 am, unless otherwise arranged. For guests catching the ferry to Sapelo, we serve breakfast at 7:15 M-F, and 7:45 for the Saturday ferry. We are happy to provide a "to go" breakfast for those that want to get an earlier start on the day by request.
• Pool: Guests are invited to enjoy our beautiful salt-water pool. Pool towels are conveniently located in a basket inside the gift shop, and sunscreen is available. Please abide by the posted rules and swim at your own risk.
• Internet: Open Gates offers free wireless Internet access as well as DSL. There is usually a laptop available for guest use in the Library.
• TV: A cable television is located in the Library.
• Other Amenities: Rooms are equipped with alarm clocks, extra pillows and blankets. Each bathroom has a hair dryer, custom made soaps, and shampoo/conditioner. Guests are welcome to use our kitchen refrigerator and freezer for storage and ice.
  Coffee cake, coffee and hot water for tea are always ready for you in the dining room. Complimentary wine is also available in the Library.
  Insect repellant, sunscreen, coolers and beach towels are readily available to make your stay in our coastal climate more enjoyable!
