    Front Door

Join us at the inn for hors d’oeuvres and inspired refreshments, 6-7 pm, Monday through Saturday evenings.  The welcoming front porch with its obligatory comfortable rocking chairs invites guests to an amazing free show that takes place every evening – the golden sun slipping into Sarasota Bay between sailboats standing at attention on the still water.

Morning begins with a breakfast consisting of juice, daily-baked muffins, a fruit assortment, and a gourmet entree – all served in the café overlooking the majestic, sail-clad Sarasota Bay on the Florida west coast. After breakfast, the front porch offers an inviting setting. Glance through the morning paper, delve into that neglected novel, or just relax and enjoy the view of the Gulf of Mexico.

Self-taught gourmet cooks Robert, Vicki and Nina are the chefs at The Cypress. Sharing responsibility in the inn’s kitchen, many of their unusual dishes are inspired by the herb garden and tropical fruit trees at The Cypress. Fresh mango-pecan muffins are an example. The mangos are harvested from the 12 trees on the property. The gardens are filled with tropical specimens, perennials used as garnish for the menu items and bouquets in the bed and breakfast.

Breakfast is served from 9:00-10:00 am. Please inform the innkeepers of any dietary restrictions when making your reservation. “Breakfast to go” can be arranged for an early departure. The inn’s recipes are available upon request while The Cypress Cookbook is in the making!

A threesome from New Jersey with backgrounds in teaching and photography, are the owner-hosts at The Cypress bed and breakfast inn in Sarasota, Florida.

Nina has a master’s degree in anthropology/women’s studies. Her love of cultural anthropology is evident in the variety of artifacts found throughout the inn. Guests will find Nina’s unique collections of antiques and art objects tastefully displayed. In the tradition of oral history, if you ask her, Nina will be glad to tell you about each and every one.

Evident at initial contact is Vicki’s warmth of personality. Her energy and enthusiasm are intoxicating. After years of experience in the field of education, Vicki’s sincere interest in the needs of others is exhibited by the attention they receive at The Cypress. Guests are infatuated by the end of their stay.

Robert is a gifted artist and photographer whose work graces most of The Cypress’ bed and breakfast rooms. He was a commercial photographer in New York City for 25 years, where he created artwork for numerous national ad campaigns, including American Express, Kodak and Continental Airlines, as well as movie posters for 20th Century Fox and Universal Studios. Robert is the recipient of numerous awards for his art photography.

Nelson, the inn’s cat, can usually be spotted amid the lush foliage keeping watch over his personal patch of catnip at one end of the garden.
