Built speculatively in 1902, this beautiful Washington DC bed & breakfast was originally a grand private home. It has a beautiful entry hall, spacious rooms, high ceilings, ornate decorative plaster and wood moldings, a grand staircase and wonderful landings with pillars, arches and arched niches. During its long history, this elegant B&B in Washington DC has been a private home (approximately 20 years), a vestry for a local church (approximately 20 years), and the Embassy of China/Taiwan (approximately 55 years). When we purchase the house in 2003, it had been abandoned for almost 15 years, and had been open to the elements much of that time. The building was in extremely poor condition and had suffered both extensive water and fire damage. Over a 3 ½ year period, owner Raymond Saba and a team of dedicated craftsmen lovingly restored the house to its former beauty, going to extraordinary lengths to find, replicate and finally re-sculpt and mold some of the original decorative elements.
