  • Introduction

    Sundance Bear Lodge - Mancos, ColoradoWelcome to Mancos, Base Camp for touring the 4 Corners!

    WELCOME! Sundance Bear Lodge is a family oriented, pet friendly, country style Bed and Breakfast in south-western Colorado between Mesa Verde National Park (only 10 miles to the entrance), Durango (30 miles to the Durango - Silverton train) and Dolores (fishing on the Dolores river).

    We have three buildings: Lodge, Log Cabin and Guest House: spend a relaxing evening on the porches enjoying the vistas -- Mesa Verde one way, the La Plata mountains the other.

    Match your family's vacation needs with three types of lodging accommodations in one location at our inn, each with a slightly different ambiance, all on 80 plus acres to hike and enjoy.

    • Two Bed and Breakfast rooms with baths in the main lodge;
    • Romantic Log Cabin with loft with bed and breakfast option
    • 3 bedroom, fully equipped Guest House

    You have arrived at the Old West of 1300AD & the vanishing Anasazi culture - and in the Wild West of the American frontier with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Enjoy this step back in time, when life moved at a slower pace. Mancos, Colorado and Sundance Bear Lodge are your base to see and enjoy cliff dwellings, Durango, Cortez, Dolores, the Four Corners and the San Juan Skyway. We even have stories about Butch Cassidy bank robberies and Louis L'Amour (check out his book Passin' Through - our canyon is on page 6)!

    Plan your tours of the area -- for starters, a day in Mesa Verde Nat'l Park understanding the history of these Ancestral Puebloans and the majesty of their cliff dwellings, a day to ride the Durango-Silverton train, see Durango and Silverton, maybe a jeep ride to visit ghost towns, or some hiking in the national forest nearby. We'll be happy to help you plan your activities.

    Return to Sundance Bear after this full day of visiting the archeological centers of Mesa Verde, Hovenweep, the Anasazi Heritage Center, or branching out to tour the San Juan Skyway, hike the La Plata Mountains, fish the Dolores River, horseback riding in the National Forest and relax in the comfort of the lodge living room, soak in the hot tub, or snooze in the hammock.

    Enjoy our 80+ acres of pastures, trees and canyon with stream, four miles north of Mancos, Colorado on Hwy 184, at about 7,000 ft. elevation. Guests are welcome to explore on foot or on their horse. And our dog loves to show you the way. Save time to sit back and enjoy the views of Mesa Verde National Park, the La Platas and the Sleeping Ute.

    Beautifully furnished B&B located between Cortez (Mesa Verde National Park) and Durango (narrow guage railroad to Silverton). Very comfortable, great breakfasts, and hosts Sue and Bob could not have been nicer people to be with.

    Our stay with Bob and Sue Scott of Sundance Bear Lodge was one of the best experiences we have had in our years of traveling the U.S. It was just a bonus that it was our first family stay in a B&B (we have a just-turned-teen son). The great location in the four-corners area, the funky little town of Mancos, the wonderful breakfasts and conversation, and the quiet solitude of the property  -everything was just about perfect. Get away from it all, or stay connected to the world. Visit the National Parks and Monuments within an easy days road venture, or explore the canyons on the 80+acre Sundance property. While we stayed in the main lodge for four nights, they also have a separate cabin and a guest house if that is more to your liking. In short, everything mentioned in the previous reviews was spot on. Given the opportunity, we will certainly be returning for another visit.

    A friend and i stayed in the SDB 2 bedroom cabin and loved it! Bob and Sue are wonderful, we lacked nothing. The cabin was comfortable, affordable, quiet, and had great views of the Mesa. Highly recommended and would go again in a minute!

    The Sundance Bear Lodge is not just a place to stay, but a destination in its self. Go for the ambiance of the lodge, the surroundings, the hospitality of your hosts, Bob and Sue, and the gourmet breakfasts. Whether you go out exploring or stay in, a memorable experience awaits you.

    A relaxed, family atmosphere (two friendly pooches complimenting two most hospitable hosts); fine victuals; a beautiful setting; and the most thorough listing of useful guidance and suggestions encountered in any B&B on our 8,834.6 mile journey around the USA. We recommend Sundance Bear Lodge without hesitation. Sally and Ted Briggs, Norfolk, CT

    Bob and Sue made our most recent vacation feel like a home away from home. Their hospitality is second to none. I give my highest recommendation to the Sundance Bear Lodge. I will visit it again.
