This destination resort offers first-class accommodations in the heart of Cripple Creek attractions – a respite at the center of fun and adventure that awaits you in The World’s Greatest Gold Camp. What a rare experience to walk the halls where famous students, teachers and locals lived and started their careers - such notables as former Colorado Gov. Ralph Carr, Lowell Thomas and Jack Dempsey. Carr became Colorado governor in the 1940s and was noted as Person of the Century by the Denver Post for his humanitarian efforts to protect American of Japanese descent during World War II. Other graduates, mentors and distinguished pioneers are featured on the walls of the Manor's Gallery. Innkeeper Wini Ledford, has other ties to the 1890’s gold rush history. Her great grandfather, Winfield Scott Boynton, was sheriff of El Paso County (before Teller County was formed) between 1894 to 1897 when Labor Wars pitted miners against mine owners. He and his brother Frank, his wife Katherine and their families were doctor, builders and merchants in Cripple Creek from around 1890 to 1915. The Ledford family purchased the property and is now in the painstaking process of renovation and restoration. The couple has completely renovated and redocorated the existing 14 rooms and has constructed two additional govener suites, a Grand Ball Room and conference center. Each of the uniquely decorated rooms and suites have theme names and historic reflections of times gone past. The warm charm of the Victorian era manifests itself in the turn of the 19th Century buildings of Cripple Creek. A few truly remarkable buildings were constructed and are available to the general public to view, but the Carr is one of the rare places open to actually spend a night or a few nights and enjoy the craftsmanship and romance of days gone by. Join us as the dream continues to unfold and "Where the Past Is Still Alive."

The Pawnee Pioneer Trails & South Platte River Trail in Northeast Colorado are the shortest of the scenic byways, but they offer the splendor of the vibrant prairie and the South Platte River.
This enriched historical route takes you along the routes of the Pony Express, Transcontinental Railroad and Fort Sedgwick. The South Platte River Trail is known for its award-winning interpretive signage and historical markers. Travel through the grasslands of the Pawnee Pioneer Trails where the Plains Indians and buffalo once called home. Few trees and robust winds bring into historical perspective how this section of Colorado was impacted by the Great Dust Bowl era of the early 20th century. Spring and fall are the best times of the year for mountain biking or hiking the serene grasslands to the Pawnee Buttes, a favorite among bird watchers, artists, and naturalists – particularly at the Chalk Bluffs, a popular raptor nesting site.
Enjoy inviting accommodations and wonderful hospitality when you choose South Platte River lodging at our local BBIC member inns. Our friendly and knowledgeable innkeepers are looking forward to sharing their love of the region with you.

Built as a home to his five children and wife, Amelia, Mouat showcased his finest wares in this 10,000 square foor mansion: cherry, oak, poplar, sycamore, maple, and walnut - each with distinct carvings and fine details. The dining room woodwork has individually carved rosettes representing varied species of trees elegantly apportioned guestrooms, each with private bath and jacuzzi complete the second floor. The third floor with a 20 foot pyramid ceiling and select maple floor once hosted Victorian social events for special events today.
