Inn at Playa Del Rey is located in the city of Playa Del Rey, only five minutes from the Los Angeles International Airport.
Inn at Playa Del Rey is a 21-room boutique hotel that overlooks Ballona Wetlands, a 600-acre bird sanctuary, and about 3 blocks from the beach.
Our bed and breakfast is a wonderful alternative to the typical hotels found in the Los Angeles area. Here we offer a peaceful and private respite away from the bustle of the city. Inn at Playa Del Rey offers a panoramic view of the wetlands, where you can observe majestic blue herons, snowy white egrets, as well as the Santa Monica Mountains.
Each of the 21 rooms is styled in seaside cottage decor and art, outfitted with great bathtubs, and blanketed with crisp white linens.
Ride along 26 miles of the Pacific Ocean Bike trail on one of our bikes. Upon your afternoon return, complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres can be enjoyed. This family-friendly Los Angeles hotel gives new meaning to the expression: "a home away from home." Expect wonderful and friendly service--you'll get it at the Inn at Playa del Rey!
Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Liz Hall for sharing her own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn?
Our travelers stay at the Inn for a variety of reasons. We are close to LAX airport which makes us a convenient location for business travelers or those just stopping over on their way to a distant location. We overlook a 600 acre nature preserve and are walking distance to the beach, so we are located in a wonderful area for locals and tourists looking for a unique getaway in Southern California. We are also in close proximity to several universities (Loyola Marymount University, Otis College of Art and Design, USC, and UCLA), so the Inn is a great place for parents of students and prospective students to come and stay while they tour the local schools.
What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?
We are best known for our outstanding customer service, our off the beaten path location, our outstanding view of the Ballona Wetlands (a 600 acre nature preserve and bird sanctuary), our cozy, comfortable rooms, our bountiful (free) breakfasts and our homemade chocolate chip cookies.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?
The number one reason to visit Los Angeles is our vast and varied climates and neighborhoods. We have such a variety of things to interest even the most weathered traveler.
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?
The best compliment we’ve ever received is that the Inn feels just like home.
What’s the best kept secret about the area?
The best kept secret about the area is Playa del Rey itself. We are a sleepy little beach town within the Los Angeles city limits, within 10 minutes of LAX. We have a clean, uncrowded beach at the end of the road, a wonderful variety of restaurants and shops within walking distance of the hotel, and unimpeded access to the 25 mile bike path on the beach. We even have free bikes for our guests to borrow.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?
If a traveler were staying 4 nights, I would usually recommend that she rent a car for a day of sightseeing. Visit Santa Monica, Venice and one of the Getty Museums. Drive to Hollywood and spend a day kicking around (or have a tour company pick her up at the Inn). Spend a day on the bicycles riding around on the bike path. Have a full day at the beach, just lounging (we have beach towels, beach chairs and umbrellas). Disneyland, Universal Studios and Magic Mountain theme parks are all within a one hour drive of the hotel.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?
Within walking distance of the hotel is the beach and over a dozen bars and restaurants.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?
We have such wonderful restaurants in the neighborhood that it’s hard to choose. My top 3 are Tower 42 (excellent food and a beach view), Caffe Pinguini (upscale Italian, al fresco dining) and Tripel (a unique gastropub with an amazing craft beer selection).
Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference? How many rooms does your inn have?
We have 21 rooms and suites.
Do you accept pets?
We do not accept pets.
