History at a Glance
The building that houses The Lodge at Pine Cove dates back to the 1930s. Operated until the mid-1960's as the Pine Cove Lodge, and it was part of a thriving community known as Pine Cove. Small cabins surrounded the main lodge, where guests would enjoy music in front of the large stone fireplace which remains today. (Photos provided by the descendants of the Neely's who owned the Pine Cove Lodge)
In the 1970's the lodge was purchased by a woman named Jan, who later opened "Jan's Red Kettle", a downtown restaurant and Idyllwild landmark. In the 1980's a local artist named Roger Dutton owned and lived in the lodge, and operated a firewood business. Many of the changes which created separate rooms occurred during this time. In the late 1990's, another restaurant, the Cafe Tirol operated in the lodge.
The current owner, Geary Boedeker, purchased the building in early 2002, and remodeled it into a Bed and Breakfast - opened in June 2002. -

Idyllwild is located in the San Jacinto Mountains in Riverside County, California. "Mile-high Idyllwild" is a popular southern California mountain resort about one mile (1.6 km) in altitude. Residents call the area "the hill." The population is 3,504. Idyllwild is flanked by two large rocks, Tahquitz Rock (also called Lily Rock) and Suicide Rock, which are famous in Southern California rock climbing circles. One of Idyllwild's attractions is that it offers all four seasons, yet in snowy winter is only an hour's drive down to the warm desert on the scenic Palms to Pines Highway. Another advantage—to many—is that it offers no lake for speedboats and no downhill skiing, thus the hill has been minimally developed over the years and remains a center for hiking, mountain and rock climbing, and horseback riding. Idyllwild also has a fine cultural scene, which includes a music and arts school formerly affiliated with the University of Southern California and an annual musical festival called Idyllwild Jazz in the Pines every August.
Shop - Enjoy strolling through the many shops and galleries that make the village of Idyllwild unique.
Dine - Savor the delights of a wide variety of fine restaurants. No fast-food here! We at the Lodge would be happy to help you decide. We have a wide variety of menus from the restaurants, and will even make your dinner reservation - just ask!
Go on a picnic - The Idyllwild area features many beautiful places to enjoy a picnic. From the trails around Lake Fulmor, to Strawberry Creek, to Indian Vista. We'll be happy to help you find the perfect spot!
Take a hike - Over 40 miles of hiking trails abound within the San Bernardino National Forest which bounds much of the area. Trails of a wide variety in difficulty and distance are available.
Go Fishing - There are two lakes within 20 minutes drive of the Lodge, so bring your pole and tackle box! Bait and tackle are available in Idyllwild.
Ride a Horse - Horseback riding is available just outside of Idyllwild courtesy of The Little Yellow Rose Ranch, seasonally from May through September.
Take in a play or concert - Idyllwild is known as one of the countries 100 best small art towns. There is always a concert, gallery, or play going on at the Idyllwild Arts Academy.
Relax on the patio - and enjoy the beautiful views of the San Jacinto Mountains and the world-famous Lily Rock (known to some as Tahquitz Rock).
Enjoy the Lodge - Curl up with a good book, or play a board game with a new friend in the Lodge. The nights can get chilly, but the fire is the perfect solution on a cool winter evening!
