Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Lowell Daniels for sharing his own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn?
The majority of our guests come to our area to visit the giant Redwoods, the tallest living things on earth. They use our Inn and the Victorian Village of Ferndale as their home base for these visits, and to explore the other offerings of the Redwood Coast of California. Many other folks, traveling from the San Francisco area to the Pacific Northwest, or vice versa, stop with us for an overnight stay to break up that trip.
What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?
The Victorian Inn is a very ornate, full service inn, constructed in 1890, and has been lovingly restored. The guests who stay with us are by and large folks who enjoy nicer things and something not “Cookie Cutter”, and are usually very interesting people. They are what we love most about our Inn.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?
As mentioned above, to visit the Redwoods, and while they are here to explore the village of Ferndale and its shops, enjoy great dining, walk on our beach and relax!
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?
Our greatest compliment is that we have many, many guests who return for more stays with us. We have one guest who has come and stayed with us for ten days each year for the past eight years. Returning to the Victorian Inn instead of seeking other accommodations is a huge compliment.
What’s the best kept secret about the area?
That we are a village with a beach (Centerville Beach) and that has maintained a lifestyle akin to days gone by, when things were simpler and more friendly than most communities of today. The population has hovered around 1400 residents for over 100 years, and these residents take a great deal of pride in their community, relationships, lifestyle and architecture.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?
A traveler should visit or hike in the Redwoods, spend one day in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, and another day in Redwoods National Park; walk on the beach; visit our unique shops; visit one or more of other nearby communities (such as Trinidad, Old Town Eureka); perhaps ride one of our many bicycle routes; go white water rafting; tour Humboldt Bay on the Madaket, a 1910 non-vehicular ferry boat offering daily tours throughout most of the year; and many more activities as your time will allow.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?
We are located at the corner of Ocean and Main right downtown in Ferndale. All the great shops, restaurants and other services are within a three block area. We also have Russ Park, an untouched and very wild bird sanctuary about ¼ mile from the Inn great for an early morning hike.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?
The VI Restaurant & Tavern (www.VIRestaurant.com) is outstanding with a wide variety of offerings. It’s open every day.
Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference?
Our web site (www.VictorianVillageInn.com) offers a great deal of local information under the section “About The Area”, and another very comprehensive source of information would be the Humboldt County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. (www.redwoods.info)
How many rooms does your inn have?
