Aptos, California is known for their cinema which has become an independent movie company under Nickelodeon. On the Fourth of July, Aptos residents celebrate the "Worlds Shortest Parade," which only travels about one fourth of a mile. The Seacliff state beach is home to the concrete ship SS Palo Alto, and lies off of Highway one. "Platforms" and "Beer Can" are local sports that are played along the beach during the fall and winter months. They also have the Aptos Blues Festival; which brings in mild acts such as Bonnie Raitt. Surfing and bodyboarding are popular hobbies along the beaches as well as other areas in Aptos, California. Santa Cruz is the neighboring city of Aptos California. It lies just south of San Francisco. Capitola is also nearby. It is named after the heroine of the novel, The Hidden Land by E.D.E.N. Southworth. Aptos has much history to it. Regardless of its small town feel, it has big town entertainment and fun. Santa Cruz is its neighboring town, which also has many possiblities as well.
