Why do most travelers stay at your inn?

Great location – We are two blocks from the University of Arizona, near downtown, and a short driving distance to most attractions.

Beautiful Inn & Rooms – Our guests enjoy the adobe architecture of our inn, the southwestern décor, built in stained glass windows, custom tile work, antique and custom designed furniture and original works of art by local artists.

Breakfasts – Our guests rave about our breakfasts.  Each morning we serve an irresistible three course breakfast consisting of fresh fruit, a delicious entrée, and a scone, coffee cake or muffin.  Our guests often comment about the fascinating conversations at our breakfast table.  Because of our close proximity to the University, we often have international guests at our inn.

Additionally, we are excellent concierges who help our guests find restaurants, entertainment, attractions, shopping, and many other unique points of interest in Tucson.

What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?

We are best known for our irresistible breakfasts.  For example, our most requested breakfast is steel cut oatmeal, home made maple cream and home made banana ice cream, named the “beige breakfast” by one of our guests who always requests that it is served at least twice when he stays with us. We are unique because we accommodate all dietary restrictions and preferences and have been certified by the Southern Arizona Celiac Support Group.  What we love most about our inn are the wonderful, diverse guests we host who bring us a world view of current events and amazing information from everything from astrobiology to cross fit training.

If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?

Diversity is the #1 reason to visit Tucson.  Visitors can find it in our cultural heritage and geography – where else can you go from the rugged terrain of the Mexican desert to the rugged terrain of the Canadian Rockies in an hour and a half? Our diversity also lies in our independently owned restaurants which encompass culinary delights 6 continents and includes countries such as Bosnia, Ethiopia, Thailand, Indonesia, Spain, Russia and Poland, not to mention 23 miles of Mexican restaurants.

What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?

One of our guests provided this review:
“I cannot recommend the Adobe Rose highly enough. A lovely, comfortable room to sleep in, an amazing gourmet breakfast every morning, long chats in the afternoon, and the compassion of nearly perfect strangers was the only thing that held us together for that first week in Tucson. Jim and Marion were the perfect hosts, made us feel like family, and just gave their all to help us in a very difficult time! “
What’s the best kept secret about the area?

The best kept secret in Tucson is the friendliness of the people.  Our guests frequently tell us that the people they meet on the streets of Tucson are very friendly and helpful.

If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?

    a. Take time to enjoy our top attractions such as the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, San Xavier Mission, Biosphere 2, the Pima Air & Space Museum and at least one of several art museums.
    b. Take the walking tour of downtown to learn about the city’s history and culture, enjoy our local restaurants and coffee shops such as Café Poca Cosa, Casa Vincente, The Hub, 47 Scott and Sparkroot Coffee Bar and Fare.
    c. Walk through the University of Arizona Campus and visit the on campus attractions such as the State Museum, Museum of Art, Center for Creative Photography.  Enjoy the performing arts on campus and the athletic events.
    d. Take a hike through some of the many mountain or desert trails in the Tucson area.  Tucson is surrounded by mountains and hundreds of hiking trails that provide breath taking views of the desert.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?

The University of Arizona is two blocks from our inn, as are quaint shops, restaurants, and pubs that are fun to explore.

What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?

Tucson has many unique and locally owned restaurants.  Many of these serve locally grown vegetables, fruit and locally grown meat.  One of our favorite restaurants is Café Poca Cosa.  Their cuisine is Mexican Gourmet, with a constantly changing menu that only appears on a chalk board.  The food is always fresh and imaginative.  For example, one evening we were served steak tips in a plum chipotle sauce.

  • About the Innkeepers

Marion and Jim Hook are excited to be the innkeepers of the Adobe Rose Inn. Both feel that their previous careers have been invaluable in helping them establish one of the most sought after bed and breakfasts in Tucson.

Marion worked in the field of education, both domestically and abroad, for more than 30 years. For the past 2 decades before coming to the Adobe Rose Inn, she developed programs for international guests of the US government. Her work often involved hosting international dignitaries for an evening, a weekend or several weeks. She even prepared and served lunch to former Indonesian President Habibi.

Jim worked in the people side of Information Technology for over 30 years as a systems designer, as a management consultant, and as a sales executive. Several themes have been consistent throughout Jim's diverse careers - excellent, high quality customer service; flexibility and enjoying people.

Marion and Jim's interests include travel (they've traveled to 15 international countries and most of the States in the US), lively conversation, food, global events, and blues, jazz, and rock 'n roll. They welcome the opportunity to host you at the Adobe Rose Inn and make you feel welcome in their home.

"I came by myself and never felt alone. What a wonderful experience for a 'first timer' to Tucson. My time here was wonderful and although I am sad to leave my son at UA, I leave with a sense of retreat and relaxing that I have not experienced for a long time. I look forward to my visit in October and I look forward to my stay here at the Adobe Rose. (Glad I made reservations early!) Blessings to all who stay here. You will be well cared for."

"I enjoyed very much staying here at your wonderful Adobe Rose. It was great to return from the Canyons to this place. The breakfast may only be described by a poet, since that is 'culinary poetry.'"

    NS, Denmark

"We really enjoyed our 6 days at your lovely bed and breakfast. Jim and Marion, you were so helpful, interesting, and fun to know. Tucson became lovelier because of our stay here. Thank you very much. See you again!"

    I & RG, Westfield NJ

"Thanks so much for such a very pleasant and homey stay - it was quite 'brilliant!' Breakfasts were delicious - when we could be bothered to get up for them. Breakfast conversations were always interesting - pancakes with intellect. What fun! Thanks for tending to and providing shade for the cacti that were bought."

    N & P, UK

"I came out here to this hot, sunny, dry desert from Iceland and was welcomed in such a way that it felt like I was at home still, in my little apartment in Reykjavile. To start and adventure in a foreign country at the Adobe Rose Inn is such a warm welcome that the heat, sun, and the strangeness of it all makes the challenge easy, fun, and a very positive experience. Thank you both for a wonderful welcome at this turning point in my life."

"We loved to our stay for the past 2 nights - Nogales & Tubac were just as you described - had a great time, bought loads of good stuff - your advice was right on target - enjoyed your breakfasts - Thanks for being the perfect down-to-earth hosts. We were so comfortable here. Enjoyed the Southwest décor and, of course, the pool."

"The Adobe Rose Inn is the best place we have stayed at. It felt like staying at home, and it was great staying here being it was my first weeks away from home. Thanks for making my move to Tucson so much easier, for taking care of every single detail, for recommending great places to dine. Thank you such a welcoming and loving place. I will greatly miss Marion's delicious breakfasts and intelligent comments and all Jim's advice. I hope my family and friends have the opportunity to stay here some time. Thank you so much."

"The Adobe Rose is definitely a home away from & Mom doesn't cook as well! (shh, don't tell!) It's always relaxing to come here and chill, instead of being stuffed in a small, stinky hotel room. We all appreciated your hospitality. We'll see you at the next Rock Show!"
