Hillsboro, Texas is a quaint main street community located one hour south of Dallas and Fort Worth along Interstate 35. Hillsboro is the gateway to beautiful Lake Whitney, the best blue water Lake in Texas, with an abundance of fishing, camping, boating and golfing. Walk or drive through Hillsboro's historic residential areas, or stop by the restored MKT Depot now serving as Hillsboro's Visitors Center. History will come alive as you explore a town built from cotton. You can tour the immaculately restored Hill County Courthouse that burned almost completely New Year's Day of 1993. Tour the first class Texas Heritage Museum which houses exhibits and galleries devoted to the Civil War era, Hood's Texas Brigade, and World War I and II.
Don't miss a visit to the Cell Block Museum. Excellent historical information and artifacts, from a large collection of arrowheads to Willie Nelson memorabilia. Open Saturdays, April through October, or by appointment.
