Smithville is a city in Bastrop County, Texas, United States, near the Colorado River. On December 2nd 2006, at the annual Festival of Lights, Smithville broke the Guinness Book of world records, record for the biggest gingerbread man ever, measuring over 26 feet. Smithville will be holding it's 51st Jamboree celebration in March. There will be a carnival, dances, arts and crafts, parade, car show, pet show and livestock show and sale. Buescher State Park permits non-motorized boating, fishing in a stocked lake, nature study, hiking, interpretive tours and biking. The scenic, 12-mile-long, winding, and hilly, paved road between Buescher and Bastrop State Parks is ideal for biking, but should be used only by experienced cyclists. Call the park for details and events calendar. The Central Texas Museum of Automotive History is dedicated to the preservation and display of the history of the automobile and great place to visit. Favorite restaurants include the Caboose Cafe which is the home of the All-You-Can-Eat Fried Catfish meal serving large portions of home style foods including steaks, seafood, chicken, burgers, sandwiches, pasta, hot lunch specials and homemade desserts! Another favorite of locals is La Cabana, a full service restaurant serving delicious homemade Mexican cuisine plus steaks and seafood.
