Welcome to Wimberley and the Texas Hill Country
Established in 1848, the picturesque village of Wimberley today, is a resort and retirement area on R.M.12, north of San Marcos. Visitors are entranced by cool, shady pools beneath towering cypress trees, frothy cascades on the Blanco River and sparkling Cypress Creek, green meadows and majestic hills; abundant white-tailed deer. Climbing, hiking, swimming, golf, tennis, arts and crafts, and camping are popular activities. Many artists and authors make their homes here. Market Days, second largest in Texas, are held the first Saturday of the month April through December. There's live entertainment, lots of good food, no admission fee and convenient, inexpensive parking. Come and experience Market Days, a bargain hunter's paradise for the unusual, one of a kind, hard to find something-or-other you've been looking for!
Things to Do in the Texas Hill Country
Wimberley is blessed with a location on the banks of Cypress Creek and the Blanco River surrounded by the Texas Hill Country. As a result, there are great outdoor activities nearby.
Shopping
Wimberley is full of unique shops that offer traditional and not-so-traditional art and wares. Although the primary shopping areas are clustered around the "Square" and "Olde Towne Plaza", there are also shops sprinkled throughout other areas. The first Saturday of each month, April through December, Market Days draw visitors from around the state.
Theater
Many rural towns had outdoor movie theatres years ago. Wimberley still has one. The Corral Theatre features first run movies every Friday and Saturday night from Memorial Day through Labor Day. You can even bring your own chair. If your taste runs to live theatre, try the EmilyAnn Theatre or Wimberley Players for year round theatrical events.
Site-Seeing
For those who just like to walk and see the sites, Wimberley is full of beautiful views and rich history. A pause at the bridge over Cypress Creek or, for the more vigorous, a walk up the steps to the top of Old Baldy are certainly worth the trip.
Additional Activities
Take a step back in time to an 1880's Pioneer Town at the 7A Ranch Resort with plenty of activities for the whole family! Wimberley also offers many unique art galleries, including Wimberley Glass Works, with entertaining glass blowing demonstrations seven day a week. Take a leisurely stroll through a working vineyard and taste some fabulous Texas Hill Country wines at Driftwood Vineyards. Pick your own blackberries while touring a working olive orchard at the Bella Vista Ranch. Get your family photographs taken while cutting your own lavender at the Rough Creek Lavender Fields. Or for the more adventurous, many of the resort/ranch facilities offer horseback riding throughout the beautiful Wimberley Valley.
Camping · Swimming · Hiking
Many of the resorts and camps around town have Blanco River access, pools and hiking trails.
For the Whole Family
